Captain Connor McDavid recorded two goals and an assist, and goaltender Calvin Pickard made 31 saves for the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday night in a 5-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center.

McDavid passed Jari Kurri for second on the Oilers all-time scoring list with 1,044 points on the back of multi-point performance, while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins contributed a goal and an assist.

Vasily Podkolzin scored the game-winning goal early in the third period before Pickard locked down the Oilers crease to pick up his seventh win in his last eight starts. #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

  1. I'll address the McDavid chicken wing on Johansson in a separate video! Initial reaction is no suspension but maybe a fine. 🤷‍♂ Hope Johansson is OK, he's battled concussions throughout his career. -AH

  2. Haha I also called the win b/c of the wave in the discord.

Also doing the wave in overtime is straight-up preposterous.

Agreed on Pickard. Name a backup goalie in the NHL making $1mil/yr who is better.

  3. Game 44. Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the Minnesota Wild. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones. My comments and observations at the end.

Still feeling awful and still waiting on eye surgery so personal comments will be limited.

Podkolzin with the Game Winning Goal, McDavid 2 goals (one on the PP) and a Secondary Assist, Leon only got an assist tonight, a lot of Oilers with a point or more (10) compared to 5 for Minnesota who are still really banged up and missing a lot of key pieces. A non-called possible McDavid Chicken Wing to the face on Johansson sent him to the back in the 2nd. McDavid passed Jari Kurry for 2nd all-time points in Edmonton History now only trailing Gretzky (by over 600 points so it's not going to be immanent). The first period was undisciplined by the Oilers who gave up 2 power play goals before Hyman responded (21 seconds after the 1st goal). When the Oilers got a shot at the PP they were perfect (1/1) so the PK was only running 33.3 % (not good).

Philp played the least minutes for the Oilers but managed to be 80% on the faceoff circle have one shot on goal and a hit in his 8:42 of play time.

From the stats: Oilers slightly more shots (36 to 34), less hits (13 to 20), won more faceoffs (31 to 28), PP 100%, PK 33.3%, 21 Giveaways (to 15 for the Wild), 1 Takeaway (to 4 for the Wild) and more block (16 to 10).

    Take care all.

  4. Okay your obssesing over the whole mackinnon and rantannen empty net thing. You literally say that in every post game video and reaction

  5. Man, one thing you have to love is that this team did not quit, only 2 points behind Vegas and 4 from top of the NHL!

  6. This is the type of “win” that serious Stanley Cup Champion contenders earn. After decades of watching this team they’re now at a level of team maturity and confidence that has them ready to take that final step. Very proud of their compete against a very good and historically tough team and building for them to succeed in. Well done boys!

  7. McDavid4Hart now? I mean man he's had since november 6th, 52 points in 31 games. After having a slow start with 10 points in 11 games and missing 4 games to injury. I mean you also consider the fact he's a beast in 2nd halves of seasons. I can see like 70-80 points in the next like 38 games for him. And that would give him what 132-142 in 78 games? He had 132 last year and that got him I believe 2nd.

  8. Good win against one of the West Conference best teams! Go Oilers! The team is becoming more and more reliable, as long as season goes on!🤩

  9. It was definitely not surprising the Oilers won, it would’ve been tough even before three of our best defensemen were out along with Kaprizov. At least we know that Rossi and Boldy are the real deal now, holding their own pretty well.
