Demidov, a healthy Ghule/Reinbacher, unloading a couple more folks… WILL be an improved team next year. Let's see what Hughes does with trades and… the draft. BUT… I'll wait ONE more game to join you on the next year hopes/this year's ship has sailed. IF they win tomorrow, AND they beat Ottawa coming back off break… then there is still hope for this year; c'mon ONE more game… dream a little dream with me!
hey Drew, this is Joe again. I asked you a question of what you think made the halves start playing like hockey players and u said patty laine. I agree with you but now that he’s playing bad it’s showing that we have no leadership on our team like I’ve told you before Suzuki is not a captain Marty St. Louis is not a leader of men and David Savard is one of the worst defenseman in the league he has taughtall the young guys to lay on the ice and be non-aggressive to try to block shots and because of that we suck.
No – we can't give up just yet. There are 29 games left in the season and I suspect that 92 points might be enough to snag a WC spot this year. For Montreal to end the season at 92 points would take a .640 record from now until the end of the season. That's do-able IF they can turn things around (which they've done before this season).
Over a month ago, I said that if we were within 5-6 points of a playoff position as of the Four Nations break, we had a chance. That break starts tomorrow night and the team is six points out of the second WC spot. I'm not throwing in the towel just yet.
Long term: Today was the latest reminder that Monty is not our future starter. Monty didn't lose the game on his own today but he didn't help much either.
I think the biggest concern that I feel this team needs to be a priority is their defensive game and their need to shore up a 2nd offensive line to help Suzuki's line. The media&fans were constantly on Primeau for having horrible stats, then came Dobes and he put up staggering numbers…but as much credit as Monty&Dobes should be given for stealing games for us, this teams defensive system in front of them is completely horrible and you can see that if our goalies are not playing lights out, they too will have horrible games. This team is not very puck responsible, too many turnovers, too many lazy soft plays, forwards missing checks, defensemen not tying up sticks & losing battles. I have had this beef about their defensive system since the start of this season, going back to last season and probably further back since MSL started. I digress…I personally do not expect Hughes to make any major changes by trade deadline unless another team is willing to. I expect more of the same, move the UFAs, get assets be it draft picks or preferably younger players with upside, and some minor moves to help Laval w/their playoff push. I do however see major decisions to be made in the off-season with money coming off the books cap wise, the cap increasing, the loss of many of our UFAs, the arrival of Demidov, and so many more holes to fill on this team…Hughes&Gorton have their work cut our for them because if there is no significant improvement on this team next season, I expect to hear a heavier pushback from fans&media, and I also expect MSL to have a lot of heat on him. My personal wish list: Bring in an experienced head coach as MSL's head coaching inexperience is slowing down the rebuild IMO, if he wishes to remain as an assistant I would be all for it but obviously that is doubtful…oh, bring back Luke Richardson), an elite forward(s) to play with Demidov, a top 4 Dman with experience preferable Right-handed who can play w/Hutson and bridge the gap to allow Reinbacher time to eventually become our #1 Dman (I adore Guhle but he needs to find a way to remain healthy and continue to get stronger, I'm not sold on Mailloux), and a couple experienced forwards to help the bottom 6 to add offence/defensive help/faceoffs/depth. This team cannot just keep adding young inexperienced players and expect a marked improvement…some of the youth, our draft pick stock, and our soon to be improved cap space need to be taken advantage of. The trading away of Kovacevic is not looking good, nor is the famous Romanov trade getting Dach…Hughes needs to find a way to rectify those 2 errors and help this team move significantly forward.
Kind of disappointing after the December/January run. Missed you and Matt. No Hockey Junkie last few days but he ssid he was sic during his last video. Hope he'll be back soon, too.
I hate to say it but playing Monty has been a disaster since the start of this season. Mistake again matheson is another problem on this team. Next season can’t come fast enough.
There is something going on either in the dressing room or too many off ice distractions. There is no longer enough reasons to win and too many excuses. As a lifelong Habs Fan since the 1960's, the lackluster drive in this team is pathetic. Monty needs to go,he is nothing other than a French DEI hire. He can get a job as a Taxi Driver like in the Nike Goalie Commercials. This afternoons game goes to prove what I have been saying that we should have kept Jake and gotten rid of Monty. To be fair the goals that Monty has been letting in were not his fault, they were shooting at his weak spot, they got the shot on goal. Monty makes Red Light Racicot look like a Vezina Winner. Thank you Drew for your channel and living in reality as I do.
C'mon Drew, seriously, you laugh at Mailloux's play on Luke's goal? You are pointing out a 4th GA when Habs failed to score? Instead of poking fun at a young prospect how about commenting on how important it is that a young player is being given ice time given this is another lost season. Why not ask yourself why Marty paired two young "D" together?
Pretenders, not contenders yet, but I enjoyed watching a lot of the games. Too many were gut punches. Hopefully they close out the season with compete and pride. Looking forward to moves by management and the growth of the youngsters. Cheers
The struggle with this game was they were legitimately playing well for the first 2 periods, just nothing was going in. Allen was great in net for the Devils but fundamentally the shots just were not there
Did you think they were going to spoil this year's draft? All they did was put the pedal to the metal to see where they're at. Now it's back to tank time. The habs want quality depth, not rent a player depth. Their aim is to have the depth to power on with key players being injured. It's a 5 yr plan, not a 3 yr plan. Wake up.
There's still more to life than just hockey and for me, it will present me with more time to do outreach ministry for christ. It would be also nice to see them in the playoffs which will now be less meaningful to me.
They stopped laying as a team and returned to individuals that were unsure of what to do …Maybe the team system was too tiring … They are likely a little better than it seems but it's tank time again ….Evans & Armia are still good but they need contracts or traded …
I'm disappointed. It's less about where they are in the standing than about the way they were playing and how they are playing now. They beat the last 5 Stanley cup champions in December was it? And they weren't lucky. They earned those wins. I thought the Habs had finally turned the corner. The way Laine was playing, I was lead to believe they finally had a sniper on the team to help Caufield. I thought they had matured as a team and finally understood the system Marty was trying to get them to play. I didn't expect them to get far if they made the playoffs but I thought the team we were promised had finally arrived somewhat. And I was already thinking long term. Laine looked happy and might resign. Hudson will be a start for years to come. Heineman was turning into the the player I believed he could be. Guhle was also turning into that dominant D I though he could be. Everything we wished for and were patient about was here. And then everything wasn't. Hudson cooled off, which is understandable. He's small and playing the most hockey he's ever played. He's still great. Laine looks like he's going to go back into a depression and I'm starting to doubt he will resign. Poor Heineman got run over by a car. Poor Guhle has no luck. Even the goaltending has cooled off. It's all fallen apart. I was not fooled but I was mistaken.
I know there are still positives but that won't change everything I wrote above. Lane is still a great player despite cooling off, Laine might just be tired and still likes playing here, Heineman ang Guhle might both have full recoveries from their freak accidents, Hopefully Demidov comes over next season and helps out immediately, Hopefully the Habs can get something at the trade deadline and use these pieces in an off season move to bring in a top 6 forward. We may have to stay patient though. The Habs might wait before trading for a top 6.
Caufield, Suzuki, Slafkovski, Laine and Demidov are all top 6 talents. I'm on the fence with Dach. That's 5 players and if you count Dach, there's your top 6. Laine and Dach might not be back. That leaves 2 spots. There are players in the system that might be able to play in the top 6 already. Heineman, Roy, and Hage are 3 guys they are developing into top 6 forwards. Beck, Newhook, Maybe Florian might be coming into the bottom 6. Hell, maybe they might give Davidson a shot in the bottom 6 next season.
The D are stacked already if there aren't anymore freak injuries. We still have to be patient with defensemen.
So even if they don't make trades, they are going to be new pieces next season to make the team better. I know this. But it doesn't help that they are not who I thought they were in December. It was fun. Who knows, maybe we'll be surprised after the 4 nations but I'm not counting on it.
yes fun whiile it lasted but we see the limit habs are at right now. next season might be a better one yet demidov and other talent adds to the habs they ran out of gas. laine might not be the culture player we hoped and Doc might not either?

Slaf and Laine look lost. Both should be up in the press box, and bring in players that are interested in giving 100%.
Yup ! Nice little run in December and early January but they just are there yet.

They don;t have the horses, still 2 years away, they are soft, small and easy to play against. Much more talent and grit coming, patience
Drew look they did archive the in the mix thing and we should be happy for that, do not feel dawn bro. I think next year it will be a lot better
Go Habs go. We not there yet. 27-28 season will be mature and loaded.

I was down South for a week offline hoping for some good news on the week. Dang

exactly, it was a good run but top 5 picks is our
They can’t keep playing Slafkovsky on the first line and first power play unit .
Feels like they are beating a dead horse .

You need to make Prayers my man! Bottom 5 baby! Suz, Col, Slaf aint a first line, Suz is not going for 82 points again, falling apart last 8 games.

I liked this video because you went straight to the point.

Demidov will help but we need a much stronger supporting cast. Demidov is only 1 player and the other teams will quickly find ways to neutralize him.
The only excitement left for this year is will Ovi break Gretzky’s career goal record.
The struggle with this game was they were legitimately playing well for the first 2 periods, just nothing was going in. Allen was great in net for the Devils but fundamentally the shots just were not there
allen is not gonna play 19/25 games. markstrom will be back after the break

Lazy bums 😁
Demidov will be the Habs best player in time, but not next year. He will be solid top 6 upgrade next year.

need experience at the blue line for the young defence.
As long as Montreal continues to be an injury-riddled team, it won't matter who they have on their roster. 😮
