Defending the Winnipeg Jets & Kyle Connor’s Next Extension | DFO Rundown

After his week-long hiatus, Jason Gregor returned to the podcast as he and Frank Seravalli were re-united for episode 357. To begin the pod, Gregor finally got a chance to give his take on the Mikko Rantanen trade and that led to some talk about whether or not he thinks Rantanen will eventually extend in Carolina.

From there, they talked about a few other things that Gregor missed over the last 10 days including the big salary cap increases that are coming over the next few seasons.

That led Frank to start wondering what the Jets will end up doing with Kyle Connor, who is eligible to sign an extension this summer. The guys debated whether or not he’s considered an elite player and then threw around some contract comparables. They also talked about the Jets deadline plans & the recent player poll that saw a high percentage of players say the Jets are the spot they’d least like to play.

Tyler then popped in for a new edition of Buy or Sell where he asked the guys about Marcus Pettersson’s extension in Vancouver, the chances of either Bowen Byram or Casey Mittelstadt being traded for a second straight trade deadline and what the Los Angeles Kings and Rob Blake need to do ahead of March 7th.

To wrap up the show, they stayed in the Pacific Divsion and talked about the Vegas Golden Knight’s struggles. Jack Eichel has been scoring but their team is very top heavy and Frank wondered if that will change with the addition of Brandon Saad. They also touched on what the Oilers could be looking to accomplish ahead of the deadline.

Frank also gave his Super Bowl prediction for his Philadelphia Eagles.

  1. Thanks Frank, for always being so positive towards Winnipeg. You are the best!

  2. I'm an Islanders fan. Love Brock. I wouldn't hate to see him go to a contender as a rental and then come back and resign in summer. But we need blowing up and Lou is far too conservative. Although part of it is ownership. If there is a chance for a few extra games they'll try and make the playoffs to get papped out after 4 or 5 games.

  3. Honestly, factoring age and performance & skill by himself is what we call Elite. Malkin has fallen off the Elite & label top 6 forward. We have 6 franchise players right now. The rest are Elites. Florida is filled with Elite Talent and isn't falling off anytime. Edmonton vs. Florida Cup final, you can't win with just two franchise players. Nugs isn't Elite, and neither is Hyman. Winnipeg and Florida has the same amount of Elites despite 1 aging goalie.

  4. The back and forth at the beginning about Jason’s vacation is hilarious. He’s doing it right btw

  5. Kyle conner not being elite must be the funniest thing ive heard all year. Especially offense but 200ft wise 100% no.

  6. The best players might not go to a team because of the tax advantage, but they might sign for a little less because of the tax advantage. Both can be true at the same time.

  7. Wow, first time watching you guys and it’s shocking watching you two fact check each others points because the other guy seems out to lunch on his “facts”

  8. Toronto literally can afford to spread their offensive around…can afford to. Splurging involves paying Knies 6 to 8 million…LoL

  9. Dylan Cozens is the name that comes to mind for Winnipeg. So is Brayden Schenn.

  10. Winnipeg draft and develop was and always will be the best way for this team and we have the best GM that understands this market very well

  11. Jason Gregor you know shit about Kyle Connor or the Winnipeg Jets! Typical you are along with so many others downgrading the Jets. Maybe you should take time and actually watch a Jets game. Thanks Frank for the Jets support! GO JETS GO!

  12. Everyone is missing that the jets organization is revieving a cut of the gambling and tv deals. The jets are going to continue to be a cap team

  13. At the start when Frank tries to justify* why he’s a bad dad because of his job 😂😂😂

    Edit- *

  14. Frank, u need to take holidays man, rather have u first 30 years doin this and take holidays then work urself to death!!!
