  1. your previous post about Bowman playing possum on goalies
could be more true than intended
I wouldnt give up on Skinner , hes got a newborn thats distracting mentally
    he will be playoff ready

  2. Schwartz can't even be blamed anymore, Skinner has his own Goalie coach Adam Francilia who's been working with Skinner since last season, he's one of the better goalie coaches and Skinner isn't getting better.

  3. You’re bang on when talking about the goaltending being fine for 3.6 million dollars but thats where the problem lies. Why is a team with McDavid and Draisaitl only spending 3.6 million on 2 goalies playing like backups? Skinner has an .870 save% against top 10 teams. He had a sub .900 save% in 11 of 23 playoff starts last year and 9 of 23 below .890! He was saved by Pickard in the Vancouver series or it would have been a short run. Skinner is 1 bad start away from falling below .900 again. He’s 50th percentile or worse in almost all goalie statistics. Goaltending has been fine for what they make but thats it. Skinner should take a back seat as a backup or 1B.

  4. When Stu is bad he is horrible. In addition I think the fan base deep down knows this team at this point is not as strong as last seasons playoff team….EDM will need a goalie to steal a round or two for them to get back to the Cup Final.

  5. I don’t believe in Skinner after that 2-1 goal in game 7. Y’all biased because he’s from Edmonton. 4 goals is enough to win a hockey game. Yeah he’s a nice guy. But come on. We are talking about a Stanley cup here.

  6. Skinner has been playing well as of late. Poor game against COL, yes, but come on. Where is all the vitriol for Bouchard hiding? Skinner, Bouchard to ANA for Gibson, Gudas, and McTavish. ANA wouldn’t go for it, why would they want Bouchard, but as long as Bouchard fans are happy being delusional, I may as well be right there with you.

  7. I think the price for what Skinner/Pickard can do has been great. It's a bargain. To really upgrade, you have to be willing to pay a premium for it. If it means either next years 1st, Akey, Savoie etc. I doubt the Oilers would part with Skinner. If they plan on Gibson, Pickard will go the other way instead of Skinner. Also, Gibson has history of injuries. Gibson better be mentally strong to play in a Canadian market.

  8. I want them to keep skinner ngl. He's cheap, he's proven he CAN be good, and he's still comparatively young, meaning room to grow. The fact that he's inconsistent should also mean a cheaper extension down the road if they want to keep him. Skinner also has more than proven at this point that he can and will bounce back before too long, and often in a big way, which would be a huge thing to kick in down the stretch/at the start of the playoffs. The Oilers don't have a lot of resources and Jeff Jackson's mandate last year was clearly to rebuild their pipeline, they shouldn't be giving up important picks or prospects. Especially not for an older goaltender who just came off multiple down years, has a larger contract, and has a NMC. If they get Gibson and he doesn't work out, he probably isn't leaving.

I'm very curious about what other goalies have had losing streaks against elite teams like this. I'm assuming this hasn't been an issue for Skinner the past 2 years, otherwise you have to think this would have come up before. Might look into the data.

  9. Skinner won’t bring the oilers to the finals Stan bowman don’t give a shit no oilers won’t see the finals so what happens when oilers don’t get past the first or second round round how is the leafs brought in a great goalie

  10. Stu had a rough game, but I’d much rather trade Bouchard and keep Stu. Bouch is a defensive liability and a turnover machine, and Oilers need someone who can actually support Ekky on that top D pair. No way he’s worth $10 million, that’s just ridiculous. Way too overrated.

  11. Pickard has totally outplayed Skinner. Which isn’t a good thing. Looks like Skinner is losing confidence and that’s scary as a goaltender. Bye-bye Dustin Schwartz.

  12. If we got Gibson I cant tell you how hyped I'd be about our cup chances. Skinner can be great but he has wild swings in quality. Its a long history of inconsistency now. Its who he is

  13. Great for the money that they are paying, but the oilers have cup dreams and to tell mcdavid and bunch that pinching pennies in goal is all they get then thats a slap in the face

  14. Yes Skinner cost us some games, but don't react so quickly. Give Pickard more games for now.

  15. Fyi you say that maybe if we improved the defense that Stu would improve. Stu's piss poor stats have come while the Oilers have given him elite level defense, which is proven with advanced stats. So that thought is unfounded. Gibson has a .913 in Anaheim. Hed have a .925 here. Im tired of the lame argument about how Skinner has decent stats since some arbitrary date in November. Hes a .900 goalie on a top defensive team

  16. The team is getting a very honest return from Skinner.
Not so much from the bomber.
    He’s a liability that’s already cost them.
I wouldn’t want him on the ice on game seven.

  17. The break can't come at a better time. The Oilers are running on fumes. More concerned about McDavid…he seems disengaged. Maybe he can find that spark during the Four Nations Cup. Got some of that Crosby mojo rubbing off on him. As for Skinner (goalie), we can no longer ignore his inconsistent play especially against top tier teams. Gibson is an intriguing option and Bowman should look at it seriously. We still need at second pair D-man as well. Maybe trade for GIbson and Gudas? Depending on the cost, this could fill some gaps. Oil have to go all in!

  18. Yet another game last night where Skinner spots 3 goals in the 1st period. At least it wasn't 3 straight to put them down 3-0, but still not acceptable.

I know, Blackwood let in 2 himself, but the difference is, Blackwood doesn't do that on a nightly basis, like Skinner practically does.

Edmonton needs a goaltending adjustment. I don't know how extreme it has to be, but if Bowman thinks Skinner isn't going to piss away games in the playoffs again this season and cost them the cup? Well, maybe shouldn't be GM anymore either.

So tired of sitting here seeing comically glaring issues with this team, and seeing nothing done about them.

I also understand it's not easy to just go out get a true #1 goaltender, or at the very least, a 1A or 1B. That doesn't change the fact that this team needs one. Pretending it's just too hard or costly to do, well again, maybe the team needs new management.

  19. Seriously if we end up getting rid of yet another goalie only for them to flourish with another team I'm going to be livid, we shouldn't be having the idea to trade Stewie, get rid of Dustin Schwartz before getting rid of Stewie, give him a chance with a different goalie coach and if he still isn't improving than trade him, seriously give him a chance with a different goalie coach and I'm sure he'll be fine

  20. All the great goalies that we could have had already, and we missed them all. Now all we can get is Gibson? Pathetic. And more pathetic is not firing the goalie coach. Just listen to the Devin Dubnyk interviews and what happened with his new goalie coach in Minn. The best 2 players in the world and they don't get a decent goalie? There is something seriously wrong with Oilers management. Do we want the cup or is Skinner a nice guy?

  21. Stuart Skinner is not, never gas been and never will be a legit #1 goaltender. Skinner never helped get the Oilers get to game 7 last year, that team dragged him like an anchor to the playoffs and to the SCF. Anyone who thinks he is a good goalie knows nothing about what a good goalie looks like, nothing.

  22. As in many comments, goalie coach untouchable and why. Picard has been a good backup. Unfortunately Stu is inconsistent and slow to start. Once he wakes up he plays great but 3 goals were bad in the last game. New child , flu or tired could all be issues but he is a professional goalie. Gibson sounds expensive . How about a new goalie coach until the trade deadline?

  23. Been saying it a long time, they can't depend on him in the playoffs, last year was last year. It's time to cut Skinner loose and acquire a proven starting goaltender, it's gotta be tiring for the team, always having to play harder trying to catch up.

  24. Tough call. I think Skinner shows enough talent to trust him into the future, and Pickard too. Goalie coach seems the best plays to start.

  25. All goalies who leave Edmonton turn out better, because they dont have Dustin Scwartz as goalie coach
