Can Habs KEEP UP in the East?
https://youtu.be/wjP_CgldgEo
I think it's important to keep in mind is that Demidov probably won't need to be sheltered as much as a player like Michkov because Demidov does try to get involved defensively, he ok in his own zone and his skillset is less based on individualistic abilities. He can go through players on his own and will at times, but he will also use his teammates a lot. As for his linemates nex year, i think that's up in the air. Laine has the talent but he has to get in much better shape and play with more pace because right now, 5 on 5, his line is basically short-handed.
His skating is so elite. He's not super fast but it seems like he is with his edgework. His hockey IQ is also elite, he's always scanning the ice, even with the puck.
As a Gen-Xer from the West Island, with neighbours being Gainey (walked his dog), Dryden (my friend told him that he hated him when he retired), Walter (he'd always talk to us at the Depaneur), Robinson (tipped better than Gary Carter), Lafleur (hit him with my bike) and on and on, we were so spoiled to have grown up with a superstar team. 86 was great. 89 a heartbreak. 93 the stars aligned, I am going to ignore COVID finals, but after the 70s team bleeding into the 80s, I have never been so excited for a play like Demidov! We've had so many awful first round picks, this is the first one that is a shocking slam dunk. This team has a bright future!
i have been watching the habs for over 40 years and i cant ever remember being this excited about a player they drafted (Demidov) Hutson being a close second. The future looks bright!
Imagine if he had real minutes and PP time the first half of the season lol
Demidov is special like no other player i can remember Montreal drafting. Last guy this hyped? Probably Lafleur. As for Laine, I stand by my statement. I don't think he really enjoys the day to day rigors of hockey. He might like the highs of scoring and the accolades but I truly don't think he loves the game. He doesn't even seem present mentally during his shifts. Slaf needs either a game or 2 in the press box. He isnt developing. He's been stagnant for at least a season. It's unfortunate. But there is still alot of time to turn his career around. I love Newhook's speed but I feel his speed gets ahead of him and loses control of the puck often times. This is a young team. They will work things out. Some will not be here for the push but I think we are still in a good position in the rebuild.
Would luv to see lvan with #88 jersey next season.
The Habs defense must be bolstered.
51 beck and Ivan would be one of the best young lines in the league.
If there is a Eichel deal to be had we need to jump on it and sell the house if needed. A top centre with Demidov as our first line would be the bomb 😅
It’s always next year!
He is not going to have as much room to maneuver in the NHL. He will need to tighten it up a bit but he will still be elite. There will be an adjustment period though.
The Habs need to add at least 5 elite players to get them into the playoff mix. They need serious help on both defense and offence.
The Canadiens are likely to lose several of their better players to free agency over the summer, so they'll need some very strong "pieces" to fill the holes.
You're adding a superstar, Mailluox, and a season's experiences for the young players.
Yes the playoffs are a real possibility.
So why are we trying to trade players like Armia who has become the perfect bottom six/ph role player, only to have to find another Armia less than a calendar year later?
No we aren’t making playoffs next year.. and I’ll bet we regress if we don’t sign or subtract certain players.
It’s will be so great to see an Actual TOP forward prospect at work. Slav is giving spasms every time I watch him float around in either zone, not attack the puck carrier and or just use the end of his stick when he should be using his body to check players and retrieve the puck.
I am one of those who would gladly see a trade sending Slav away for an actual top six 30-40 goal player.
Enough of Slav is hockey bright, he has all the skills, he is young he will learn…. He is just a floater out there.
They will need a better coach to make playoffs and better play from guys on their roster or a roster upgrade
