I never understood the signing of Petey. That is a lot of money for someone that isn't a leader. Points come and go. Leadership lasts.
The canucks threw 11.6mil of unearned $ at him, kinda like the Oilers and nurse. Although nurse is, so far, playing better this year, its a contract that was awarded, unearned imo.

In sports, it's all about the present and this year. I'd lean towards judging him until end of year or at least a couple months. There is alot of judgement going down so fast after the trade. Give Petey more time. If he is still clearly affected in March and beyond, then maybe a move in the summer is needed. This absolutely would be a clear sign the Canucks front office needs to be cleaned out. If they chose to trade a 100 pt player and a good NHLer to keep a dude that is being a baby permanently, they should be fired. I still think Petey will figure it out but there just isn't a ton more leash by the way it seems

Dallas is a much better team to watch. even when players are doing poorly, you can always see they’re trying. Just look at Robertson. Pettersson does not have that drive.
He isn't quitting on the Nucks…he is simply over rated. He isn't a top 1# C. BUT, he's paid as a #1 C…that is the problem.

crazy how many people are saying petey's quietly quitting when miller literally did quit on the team. (short shifts, don't back check on D, tocchet called him out in a game and miller walked away mid conversation to move to the end of the bench and pout.) Petey isn't the one that slammed his stick yelling at delia and lankinen to get to the bench, petey didn't have a rift with guys like horvat and luke schenn, Petey isn't the one with a history of not getting along with teammates. All of this and everyone still think we should have kept miller. Miller's the one that got placed on leave for 10 games and the management clearly saw him as the problem.
I called this collapse 4 years ago. All the canuck simps couldn't get a grip.
How C-Petey plays between now and the last game the Canucks play before the 2025 NHL Entry Draft lucky will go at least some way to determining whether his long-term future lies with the Canucks or not.

Petey is a spoiled little boy. He's not good for Vancouver. He's way too moody and therefore inconsistent. Inconsistent mentally, emotionally, and professionally. This makes him arrogant, and therefore has the right to punish people with his moods and lack of zeal & effort.

Dude cares so much. And is WAY too hard on himself. He knows what its like having the crowd on his side. Hearing 18k people chant your name is not something you forget. And im sure he wants to hear that again. So it's this weird thing where you have to pretend not to care what people think, and just be a pro – and suck it up etc. But weve heard so many of these ex Nhl ers speak to this side of the game – the mental side and how elusive confidence can be.
The reason he's still here is because JR and PA know that once that next bunch of goals start to come, you'll see the 11.6 M version of Petey and will be glad he's on your team.
It's just that the hourglass ⌛ is running thin. And it is a business. So i get the loss of patience.
I for one just couldnt picture him wearing another jersey. It would just be so foreign. And i dunno – i know hes not playing up to his potential yet – but i think it would be really bad for the team if he was moved.
At this point it seems management will make a decision in the summer. So come July 1, we'll have a definitive answer.
