Italian Supreme Court, December 16, 2007:
The steering column was defective, suffered a failure, and Patrick Head was found guilty; however, the statute of limitations of 7.5 years had passed and no punishment was possible.
Ayrton requested the changes that lead to a change in the steering column. The team implemented those changes poorly. His death was 100% human error, and we lost prob the greatest driver in history, parents lost their son, children lost their father, and F1 lost a legend in his prime.
And Bernie Eccleston & Charlie Whiting covered it all up (the fact Ayrton died on the race track, as confirmed by race Doctor Sid Watkins) so the San Marino GP wasn't postponed or canceled. Not to mention Roland Ratzenberger who died the previous day during qualifying; an incident in pit lane got people; a terrible crash by Reubens Barrichelo wherein he nearly choked to death on his own tongue; and a horrific crash at the start of the race that injured drivers, fans, & marshals. The entire race weekend was cursed.

My mom is a huge Ayrton Senna fan until today. We are Brazilian, and she told me she was watching this F1 race on TV when he died… the whole country was devastated by these bad news… Ayrton Senna was i he will forever be a hero for us Brazilians
This shows how much respect the drivers had for Senna. Each driver took their win or place as a very hollow one. No celebration at all.
The banning of driver aids was supposed to end Williams' dominance, and in that it failed miserably. It only succeeded in hurting driver safety.
Still, it's nice to see Schumacher and Häkkinen on the same podium before their championship battles ever happened. Now that was a true rivalry, a clash of philosophies as well as driving skills.
I remember Dale Sr at Talladega later the same day. Senna was the first thing he spoke about after winning.
Nobody won that day.
That was a weekend that reminded us of the origins of F1.
