In today’s video we discuss the Edmonton Oilers lines from practice, including the continuation of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl being loaded up on the top-line. This knob is starting to pull the same crap as Woodcroft did, wearing out McDavid once again. At times yes and at times no.
W Austin
I'm on board with the idea of getting a new goaltender as Stu is just not cutting it
Goblues!
I’m okay with Nuge centering against some of the more middling teams. Nuge has good plasticity, and his game has been looking more confident. I also agree with you about the Henrique line, it has the makings of a great cycle threat and I’m looking forward to seeing what they can produce.
As for Brownmark, it’s looking like a repeat of last season. I hope they can produce before the playoffs.
You can't win games by allowing 20 shots from the slot and allowing players to skate right through the team.
Klingberg looks to be good at moving the puck. Liking what I see so far.
I had to take a day to think on yesterdays post about skinner goaltending. Certainly he can be disappointing when he is off his game but I doubt there is any better option out there at this time of year. Picard should get more playing time. He has been great in the games he has played. Let skinner rest for a couple games and in the past that has yielded great results. Mark messier wrote a book called No One Wins Alone. That can be paraphrased to No One Loses Alone. Oilers may not have a league leading goalie but the goalies the oilers have are not protected by any lead leading defenders either.
To note: Edmonton special teams 0/4 (0/2 pp and 0/2 pk) and toronto 2/4 . Skecher too small for the 2nd goal on the pp. Skinner did make the first save. Ekholm was missed especially on the pk.
A left depth d that can play both side is needed that has size and can pk.
ekholm
nurse
kulak
Cam dineen
Bottom 6 Right shot center that can win faceoffs esp on d zone faceoffs and kill penalties. Toronto was going to edm weak side left shot center on faceoffs esp on the pp more often than their left shot strong side.
Google this article by tyler dellow in 2017 on the importance edm getting a right shot center
tyler-dellow-why-faceoffs-on-the-right-side-are-kryptonite-for-auston-matthews-nazem-kadr
"Sidney Crosby’s gotten a lot of mileage out of going away one summer and learning how to take faceoffs. As great as that is, in the last seven years, he’s 48 per cent on the right side at 5-on-5. That’s about the best case scenario for Matthews. It’s possible that he doesn’t get better at all. Evgeni Malkin is 41 per cent on the right side at 5-on-5 since 2010-11. Jamie Benn is at 43 per cent. There’s a limit to what one can reasonably expect from a lefty on the right side"
Austin come playoff time teams will play odds and go after the right side faceoff on the left shot center weak side. Get that quick strike or higher chance of possession. Remember gm 3 against the jets. Khaira on his weak side in overtime and quick win by the jets, ehlers one times the puck top corner down 3-0. .
1 b goalie to help skinner.
Hopefully the Oilers will make a move on goaltending, Skinner is just not the guy, too many soft goals and putting the team in the hole. Both he and Bouchard should be traded before they cost the Oilers another championship. Skinner is a nice guy and all but like the rest of the team, he seldom starts when the puck drops. Costs them too many wins ,often before the second period begins. That being said, the Oilers need to get their heads out of their asses and start when the game begins. Can't always give the other guys a head start then play catch up. 😡😡
Pickard #10 in the NHL, Skinner #26 – but they keep over playing Skinner ????????????? And why isn't Savoie playing???????
We miss Ekholm when he is gone, but we won't miss Nurse when he's sick.
Going on the road will be good for them. Can just focus on hockey without distractions. 100% agree that McDavid and Drai need to separated. Put the original lines back together and play Philp for more than 5 minutes. Roll the lines and our depth will win games. I would ride Pickard too. Need to give Stu Skinner a wake up call – he’s not the #1.
This might be some hometown bias but whenever pickard is in net I get a sense of relief. While I don’t think he’s at a point where he could be our primary starting goal tender. He gives an air of consistency that skinner just doesn’t have. It makes games much more of a black box where we don’t know how many goals we have to out score when skinner is in net. Love the guy but at best he’s a backup goalie. Arguably would still take pickard over skinner. Trade skinner and get more $ out of it than trading pickard as well. Just my 0.2
Yea Dylan Holloway SHOULD be an OIler right now on the top line.
You da man Austin!!
The hockey guy ranked Vega first on January 4, LA first on January 11, and Oilers first on January 18. Now all three teams refuses to win.
I’m now fully waiting for the downfall of the Capitals and the Jets.
Stu is prolly gonna have a half decent game against a non playoff team vs. the Blues who have trouble scoring every game anyway and all the sheep will come saying "our goaltending is more than fine" again. Can't stand it. Also the lines are terrible becoz McDrai together.
What’s that behind you? A 90s computer?
Imo Philp should be playing in place of Janmark right now. Janmark has been doing very little offensively recently.
