Ride Pickard for awhile and see what he’s capable of, so far he’s got the better numbers and a lot of his starts were back to back games, backing a tired hockey club and playing awesome. I think Pickard only had one really bad game this year.

Wow! Mere mention of Stu's name opened a flood of comments. The angry villagers are out with their pitchforks and torches. My opinion is that when Stu is on, he's as good as any other goalie. Problem is that he has a tendency to let in soft goals every now and then. Whole team looked lethargic in the first period of the Toronto game. Leafs really took it to them. It could have been worse if not for Stu making some really good saves. Who are you going to get to replace him? Don't think John Gibson is the answer. Can't think of any other goalie who might be available and is a difference maker. You'd have to look at teams that are pretty much out of the playoffs. That really narrows down the list. Team has other needs too. We need that big-time right shot defenseman and another forward, preferably someone with jam. For the forward position I'm thinking of Trent Frederic. While we're talking about the Bruins, I also like Brandon Carlo. Boston's on the playoff bubble. Their team is generally trending downwards over the past couple of years. Marchand is 36 years old. We have a couple of younger players they might be interested in. From the standpoint of a fan, I'd be interested in talking to them. I don't think Emberson is the defenseman we need for the second pairing. He's still pretty young and lacks experience. That said he's better than I ever thought he'd be. Shows you what I know. Better sign him before he becomes an RFA or St. Louis might grab him.

I agree with everything you said Patrick the loose wasn’t solely on Stuart Skinner the team in front of him didn’t play the best and Bouchard looked out of place without Ekholm not in the lineup plus Klingberg doesn’t quite have his legs under him
Skinner has plenty of warts and we just have to accept he’s just a average goalie and will never be anything more then that the big question can we win a cup or multiple cups with average goaltending my personal opinion NO. Goaltending and D wins cups can’t expect #97 and #29 are going to set playoff records every yr we’ve already lost playoff rounds because both weren’t healthy

Stuart Skinner had better numbers than Bob in the finals last year. Every goalie has a clunker every now and then. It’s like pitching in baseball. It’s also a team game, I’d upgrade the defence before I looked at goaltending

Excellent commentary. What we need to understand is the fact that goalies are only the last line of defense. Therefore, if the forwards cannot play defensive hockey and if the defensemen are inept at taking out the opposition's forwards as well as clearing their zone, then this would be an invitation to provide the opposition with much more "Grade A" opportunities to score.
People need to look at goalies who played as much as skinner and you’ll see he’s doing well for himself what we need is better goalie coach and some more shut down defenders

Stu is playing very well for a young goalie. He has more good games than bad. He was thrown into the position as starting goalie and has done well to step up. The budget for goaltending has been thrown off balance due to the poor play and buy out of Jack Campbell. Stu is a value player and like you said Patrick the Oilers are getting a good return. The team needs to play better defence and I think at the trade deadline they should focus on acquiring a strong, shut down style D-man.

Skinner isn’t the cause of any of our losses. I agree about NOT paying 10 mill a year for a top level goalie. No one can afford to have too many expensive players. Except Vegas of course.

I don’t see him as “Puck stopping machine”, one that can win games by himself. Because he can’t.
Looking at last year’s final, the “Puck stopping machine” won the cup. Had it not being for Brobovsky, and some Oilers D-man continuously assisting the opposition, it would have been a Cinderella story.
Skinny doesn’t have the tools to be a Vezina winner, but with the right defence…..
I have been saying this for awhile now. I don’t think Skinner is the person needing replacing. It’s Dustin Schwartz the goalie coach. We have had more than enough goalies come through the organization not perform well enough only to be traded off and have decent to good success in other hockey clubs. Schwartz has been with the team for many years. Time for a change! That’s my opinion.

They played stellar defense is the reason why skinner looked half decent, but he is caught out of position more often than not when called on to make a save when the defensive system breaks down
They can either spent money and get a real chance at the cup or not spend money and not win the cup
