How was Quinn Hughes’ absence felt against the Red Wings? Are the Canucks better after their recent trades? TSN Hockey analyst Bruce Boudreau joins SC with Jay Onrait to share his thoughts.
Well the additions to the team looked real good. Hope it wasn’t cause they only wanted to impress their first game. What troubles me more is the original crew looked invisible. Example, ep40, Boeser 6 debrusk 74 to name a few and to boot the highest paid. It’s insulting to vcr fans
Addition by subtraction. We'll see how Chytil does in the coming weeks, but he looks good. Miller at his best is great, but the team was going nowhere with that toxicity. Even Brad Richardson, a rental player, had to tell JT to cool it when bullying Pettersson. It's clear, as someone who has been bullied, who the bullies are in these comment sections. I'm glad BECAUSE of you that Miller got traded. And we get an excellent top 4 defenseman who can defend. O'Connor was pretty good, too. You have to look at situations as opportunities. They had to free up cap space anyway to make the overall team better. Now they're able to do it. I don't think they're there yet, though.
they have to get rid of the dump and chase, petterson and boeser aren't gritty enough for that. Bring back crash the net and deep triangle and Boeser even Petey may come back
lol at anyone who thinks they are better without Miller and hanging on to cupcake EP. Also ditching the only ounce of toughness on the backend with Desharnais was just as brutal
Elias needs a new start himself. I'm sure there are players in the locker room that sided with Miller and Elias feels it still. Nobody likes a dog-focker making that kind of money and when the guy who calls him out gets the boot, the resentment increases further. It can't get better. I've yet to find a "superstar" that got the pay day, crapped the bed, and then returned to form. I could be wrong, but time is wasting for all parties involved.
The Canucks traded the wrong player. How long is it going to take for people to realize that Elias Pettersson is not going to return to the level of play that he once had. It's been over a year now. He does not have the strength of character, he lacks confidence and he no longer drives the play. He has become a liability and unless the Canucks can deal him before his no trade clause kicks in they will regret it for years to come. Canuck fans and management seem very reluctant to face this reality but the alternative is that the Canucks will never reach their full potential as long as Pettersson remains on the team.
Impossible to come out on top when a player is essentially holding out and making demands. GM has hands tied behind his back and opposing GMs know it. Best is to mitigate the damage and I think Canucks management did ok given the no-win situation and limited trading partners.
JT turned a tight-knit group of young upcoming stars into a soap opera and positioned himself as the leader in the fallout. He quit on five coaches and 3/5 traded him. The other two got fired, both at Canucks, but when he quit on Rick, Rick traded him. Ironically he also quit on Bruce and got him fired. "When he decides to play" is the key sentence here. For some weird reason he decided to never play when other players were playing well, like when Petey was flying under Bruce, or when the Lotto line got reunited in January last year and Petey was on a 132 point, 88 goal, 25 GWG pace in a 13 game stretch when JT "decided" to stop playing and the line got split up again.
The drama queen will destroy the Rangers. They're in the JT honeymoon right now, like every other team when he joins them or there's a new set of coaches he's trying to charm, but watch the drama start stacking and him stop playing power forward when he "decides" that he's the star.

Would have been a Greater impact if the "C" had been taken off Hughes….. NOT Captain material!!!!

Obviously not. you don't trade arguably your top forward for multiple players and get better.
I think the Canucks can be less dysfunctional and only modestly less talented. That is probably enough to be able to put up better results.
Heat-L Bruce not cheat-l

They got rid of the wrong one of the two but it’s difficult to get rid of 40 Peterson with him being so highly over paid.

As a Canucks fan, my take on it is that we are a little worse than last year but we are going to be better in the long run.
They got rid of the wrong one of the two but how do you move someone who is paid three times more than he should be
Brian Burke said JT is a locker room cancer 8 years ago and no one believed him, Canucks are in a better position today than last week.

They are wishing they still had Horvat is what they are doing
Petterson still MIA, so frustrating to watch and then there's the contract.
Vancouver traded the wrong guy
tochett is not a dynamic coach

Quinn is a great player but to say he is the best on both teams is ridiculous.
