I struggle to see this as anything but total garbage. Our biggest weakness is goal tending and defense. Trade our most solid D man for 2 30 year olds and a late 1st rounder???? Addresses absolutely nothing he's said he'd do. We're not younger, we didn't get an NHL ready prospect, we now have more money tied up in old/low talent players, and another locker room personality is gone.
I think management is finally starting to get it. A first round exit is not much better than missing the playoffs entirely, especially if the object is to remain competitive/contend. Washington truly is the blueprint for success for how to navigate this transition – Pointlessly squeaked into the playoffs last year, made zero noise against the rangers, essentially blew the whole thing up during the off season and now they're top of the league and a legitimate threat.
I may be wrong ,but when Letang is on ice we have one defenseman and three wingers,why not just move Letang out of defense until we have big leads? Otherwise trade him?
I don't trust dubas and don't feel he has a plan going forward ! this season is beyond lost and the pens would be wise to bring up some minor leaguers to give them some NHL experience and to see if they are options going forward ! heinen will clog up a spot for minor league players with really not much production in return ! trade Hayes and others for draft picks ! malkin is a shell of his former self , maybe some team will look at his past and bring some young prospects and or draft picks in a trade ! give st. ineny another chance and show him video of him passing up hits that led to goals against hopefully he will get the message !
Keep going, Kyle. Make trades until you have space for Koivunen, Bemstrom, Broz, Ponomarev, and McGroarty in the 'Burgh. Use the end of the season to see what the young D prospects can do, as well as Murashov.
Kyle is a terrible manager, talent evaluator, and team builder. His track record and current work speaks for itself. Tying my comments more into The Leafs- the fact that Shanny actually tried to retain Kyle only to be overwhelmed by his demands, also says a lot about their franchise and is a great symptom of the team's ongoing futility.
Dubas has limited PR skills and does seem to be way in over his head. Having said that it is very refreshing not to hear the typical gm b.s. every single interview.

1st rounder. Basically the Rangers 1st round pick for Marcus Pettersson. The salaries are a wash. MP is $4.025,175AAV. Desharnais is $2AAV and Heinen is $2.25AAV. Both have 1 year deals and Desharnais can be traded next deadline as he is a big right shot defense man. No Nils Hoglander, Keifer Sherwood, Aatu Raty, Dakota Joshua, Elias Pettersson dman, or any other top prospect. No talk on Hoglander by anyone is odd.
