The Edmonton Oilers have a troubling trend that has developed throughout the team’s losses this season. It’s become a big problem in the last two games, even though everyone is amped to blame Stuart Skinner.

We play (and shoot) from wherever the opponent forces us to. We telegraph our passes, we have a predictable O-zone playbook, we rarely screen their goalie, we shoot low when their goalie is down, and when we are in a high danger scoring position we pass. Accounting for all of that, our shot percentage is pretty good. Jk.

Get a goal tender. Gotta pull the goaltender after he leaves two quick ones in. It’s quite obvious he’s not ready.
The coach needs to stop juggling lines, how does he expect lines/players to create chemistry? Offensive players get paid for their "offense" so make offensive lines with the top 6. Defensive players get paid for defensive play, so make defensive lines with the bottom 6. Hyman is not getting paid to be a checker! We dont pay Brown to score goals, he doesn't belong on the top line. What the coach needs to do is make the players understand their roles and use them as such. Also, we need to upgrade our two smallish forwards and 1 D. You know who they are. Vegas and Kings looking to kick us around.
Skinner never makes the saves we need. I knew we were cooked for the shootout against Detroit.
Skinner is CONSTANTLY giving up 2 – 3 goal cushions, and it's the team that bails him out whenever they scrape out a win. Guy has some good games on occasion, no doubt, but that's no reason to keep him as a #1. This guy's consistency, is like a box of chocolates, because you never know what the hell you're gonna get with him in net.
It's incredible how many people still defend this guy. Their problem IS goaltending. Is the defense doing him any favouris? No, but his rebound control was bantam-class last night.
I'm Edmonton born and raised. I've watched the Oilers since the WHA! I was at the first two cup's. And when This team gets down 3-0 in the first I'm not panicking. This is one of the best teams the Oilers have ever put on the ice! Blue and Orange for life!💪
The Oilers played their guts out last night and left nothing in the tank. They did everything right.
If you replay that game 1000 times, the Oilers win 700 of those games.
The Oilers never gave up and almost crawled back. That is the kind of spirit that takes a team far in the playoffs.
The Leafs will learn that lesson when they are watching the 2nd playoff round from home.
Skinner has gotten better month by month over 3 years. He is not the problem. Pickard doing marvelous as well. I remember being frustrated by Skinner 3 years ago but not now. 2 goals against were on Leaf power plays. 4th goal was soft defensive play along with a lucky bounce off of a skate. Love the insights and direct, practical way you analyze on your channel. Thanks from Milwaukee Wisconsin.

Saying our goaltending isn't the issue is insanity, Skinner's Sv% is 32nd in the league for goalies with at least 10 games played, goalies with at least 20 games played his GSAx is ranked 34/43, he's bottom 10 and a negative on wins above expected… If he wouldn't be from Edmonton media and everyone else would be calling for a better goalie, in Skinner's last 10 games 5 of those he had a sv% Below .890
… and BTW Woll is at a .909sv% ranking him 18th best on sv%, he's also top 10 in GSAx
oilers win games by getting shots. 10% shooting percentage is fine if your getting 40 shots a game with math says your getting 4 goals a game. oilers problem is skinner letting 2 or 3 goals in on the first 7 shots against of the game. skinner shuts the door after that but come playoffs spotting playoff teams 2 or three goals early in the game is gonna cost the oilers any shot at winning the cup.

People always only seem to remember when he lets in a bad goal, never when he makes excellent saves. Sure every now and then a bad one goes in, but that happens to every goalie. Every game where we go down the defense and forwards just slack off to oblivion for 2 minutes straight. Goals are always coming in off the rush, turnovers, and puck-wathcing defensive plays. So yeah, its 2 goals on 5 shots, but if those two goals are coming off of a 2-1, breakaway, or wide open net-front passes, how can we expect him to always be throwing himself around after these pucks??
Oilers will never win with a goalie tandem that they have now. Skinner is a cool guy but a shit for starter goalie.
Skinner is a problem, not near good enough. If the Oilers want to win a cup they really should upgrade between the pipes. He cost them the cup last year by allowing 2 very stoppable goals against in game 7. Get a fricking #1 goalie already, or wait til he costs them another cup, the window will close and no cup if they don't imo.😡

Valid point about the shooting. I've seen many games over the past few seasons where the Oilers lose while outshooting their opponent by a significant margin.
defense is always a screwy mess , screening or sitting in the crease , puck watching instead of taking out incoming rushes and staying out of goalies line of sight .
its been a 3 year consistent problem , every game , every defense line , every season
Skinner has issues true , but are multiplied by x50 when defense screw ups are making his task close to futile when he's screened or crowded in his own crease . defense has to stop incoming shot rushes at blue line and stay out of his line of sight .
then goalies are able to keep more pucks out the net. the puck has to pass by 5 other oilers before goalie has to be ready to stop shots.
so blaming skinner, while delusionally refusing to see the defense problems , causing 62% of ALL GOALS AGAINST , would be lazy attempts at analyzing the actual cause of most all games lost.

We have the best second period in the NHL but we have the worst first period in the NHL… we can’t keep coming back from 2-0 or 3-0 deficits in the first period… Stuart Skinner eventually finds his game but sometimes it isn’t until the second period when you see it

We’re 6th in the league in scoring. Offence is not a problem. Bottom of the league in goalie stats. Why are skinner apologists so blind?
Save percentage is not a good stat to judge goaltending. We are an elite defensive team and allow the second fewest high danger chances against per CSA. Of course the sv % is low when all the shots are from the outside.

It’s the first periods that’s are killing this steam but I say it all the time it’s not 100% on Skinner. A player to me that looks way off is McDavid why is no one blaming him for the loss bad passing bobbling the puck terrible shots what’s up with him he doesn’t feel like McDavid.

Letting in 3 goals on 14 shots is not giving your team a chance. You end up playing the entire game. Your analysis is to blame McDrai and a guy who plays his 2nd game in 14 months. Be better.
