The Vancouver Canucks followed up their J.T. Miller deal last night acquiring Penguins defenceman Marcus Pettersson and forward Drew O’Connor in a deal that sent Vinny Desharnais, Danton Heinen, Melvin Fernstrom, and NYR’s protected 1st Round Pick to Pittsburgh.

Harm, there is more to being a good hockey player and a good hockey team besides stats. Character, heart, passion are key to make a team successful and fun to watch. You sound like a robot defending EP40 with your analysis of his stats. EP40 is soft, he is a whiney little boy who makes the Canucks look pathetic when he's out on the ice. The Canucks will never be great with EP40 on the team.
Canucks now have 27 million in cap space next summer. Arguably much better on defense than before and Chytill is a decent 2nd center. Overall, lots less drama and much more cap flexibility now.
I am sure that Petterson will feel much better now that he is fully surrounded by relatives.

As far as the trade, it'll hurt to lose JT. That's a boat load of piss and vinegar missing. But he was on the back 9 if his career and at odds with the younger core. Old school toxic masculinity vs new school cerebral. Something had to give, and in hockey, its a give and go. Best of luck to JT. Helluva player.

We got younger, cheaper, patched a big hole in the D, got big young R handed D prospect for a guy we weren't going to use, and didn't lose our picks or up n' comers.
We also got off two unproductive contracts.
We need to add grit, but a healthy Joshua and Sherwood will remedy that.
The big takeaway is (hopefully) the locker room will be at peace, and the new blood will help freshen the mood, the group, and the spirit of the team.
Considering everyone knew we were having problems I think management did an excellent job to patch up a very bad situation and to hopefully turn it around.

Canucks have a record of mediocrity. They always play just enough to get into playoffs or just miss. Get terrible draft picks unless they luck out and some other team makes a poor choice(Quinn hughes). They miss manage their player. Playing demo too much last year. They always trade away their picks for rentals. And this team is team Europe.

I'm surprised no one is excited about Mancini…he might be a sleeper in this trade. I have a feeling that this was plan B when the Hurricanes trade fell through. Petterson needs to now show his worth, or he's good as gone as well especially with Buffalo chomping at our heals for a trade. Curious to hear what people would have wanted…the trade we did or Miller with Necas? Probably would have still gotten M. Petterson with a 1st round draft pick and the other players. I like the other player we got from Pittsburgh as well…not a bad one. Maybe that pick was too much to give up for Carolina and opted to go with Colorado…who knows? C+ trade all the way, but I would have still wanted to wait until the off-season to pull this type of trade and possibly make a B+ to an A trade.
If the Canucks were in a say rebuild situation, sure that 1st round pick would be extremely valuable but that isn't the case for the Canucks. They are in the 'win now' phase with the majority of their core players in their 'primes'. So trading that 1st round asset in a draft class that is ok but not great is a good move to get a guy in M.Petey who is by all accounts a highly coveted d-man if he made it to the trade deadline. If they could re-sign M.Petey even better than the core d-group is pretty much set.
