It’s a good trade for both teams.
Good deal for SJ for two 30-somethings who weren’t going to be around for better days but this means the Sharks will struggle to achieve 20 wins w/o their top scorer.
Dallas should be pretty good at playoff time. Heskinen has some time to heal up. Goaltending is very solid
According to the Dallas Morning News, the Stars still have 4.9m in cap space because of LTIR moves.
0:30 "This breaks up the Lund line for the Sharks." It's been broken up for awhile. Eklund's been playing with Toffoli and Celebrini, Smith has been filling in for Eklund on the line with Zetterlund and Granlund. The last time I can find the Lund line listed on Natural Stat trick is January 10th vs Utah.
I'm pretty sure a big part of why several of the trades are happening now vs at the TDL is teams don't want to risk losing out because their tradable assets are injured at the Four Nations.
Another team that just doesn't seem to care about winning.
Gold trade for both sides.
Well, Granlund to Dallas wasn't on my radar, but very happy for him to be able to join a competing team
can you put relevant stats up for defenseman that get traded? ceci has blocked 100 shots this season, if its an offensive dman i get it but showing that he has 15 points just seems like a waste of ink
Stars have enough good prospects in Johnston, Stankoven, Bichsel, Bourque and Hemming
This is the trade I was looking for. Granlund is an excellent pick up. The fact Dallas gave up no current prospects is even better. While Ceci is not a big time defensive player he is an upgrade over current players……..Dumba. Excited to see Granlund on this team. Good player and should be an excellent fit.
If there are two GMs that are really making progress, it's Mike Grier and Jim Nill. Grier is doing a great job in building a long term future in making the Sharks competitive again soon. Nill has been great in making Dallas competitive since he left Detroit. It would be nice to see Dallas and San Jose meet in the western conference final one day. Plus as a Sharks fan, I want revenge revenge for 1998, 2000, and especially 2008. Yeah, 2008 was really painful.
Longtime 🏒 and 🐻’s fan since ‘68! THG is the go to for 🏒updates! Great stuff👍🏻Happy 2025 to Shannon and Yvonne! 🏒🐻
A 1st?
Great move. As the Stars LTIR gets longer and longer, Nill should lock up what he can to keep us competitive and get ready for the playoffs when hopefully Seguin and Miro come back.
Dallas had to make a move now. Having to rely on rookie D for the next several weeks not good. Granlund will allow prospects to develop in AHL vs NHL
I think it's a good move by both parties. Dallas is hurting for depth on defense, and Granlund is a good player. They needed to make moves to keep pace in the division. Sharks got good value for the players.
What it may look like in terms of playoffs:
First round:
Winnipeg vs. Calgary
Edmonton vs. Los Angeles [4th consecutive year]
Vegas vs. Colorado
Dallas vs. Minnesota
Washington vs. Ottawa
Carolina vs. Tampa Bay
Florida vs. Columbus
Toronto vs. New Jersey
Results: Winnipeg eliminates the wild card Calgary Flames 4 games to 1, Edmonton for the 4th year in a row eliminates Los Angeles Kings 4 games to 1, Colorado eliminates the Golden Knights 4 games to 2, Dallas eliminates the Minnesota Wild in game 7, Ottawa Senators SWEEP the Capitals 4-0, Carolina Hurricanes eliminate Tampa Bay Lightning 4 games to 1, defending champions Florida Panthers ELIMINATE Columbus Blue Jackets 4 games to 1, Toronto Maple Leafs unfortunately eliminate New Jersey Devils 4 games to 1.
Second round:
Winnipeg vs. Edmonton
Dallas vs. Colorado
Carolina vs. Florida
Toronto vs. Ottawa
Results: Edmonton Oilers eliminate the Winnipeg Jets 4 games to 2, Dallas Stars for the second year in a row eliminate the Avalanche 4 games to 1, Carolina Hurricanes take down the defending champions Florida Panthers in game 7, Ottawa eliminates Toronto 4 games to 2.
Conference finals:
Edmonton vs. Dallas
Carolina vs. Ottawa
Results: Dallas Stars exorcise their demons and SWEEP the Oilers 4-0, Carolina Hurricanes eliminate the Ottawa Senators 4 games to 1 to advance to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2006.
Stanley Cup Finals:
Carolina vs. Dallas
Result: Carolina Hurricanes win first two games in Raleigh, Dallas Stars win game 3 in Dallas, Carolina wins two more, one in Dallas and the deciding game 5 in Raleigh results in a massive win for the Hurricanes, with the team clinching their SECOND Stanley Cup.
Reports came out that the Sharks tried to extend Granlund. Those talks didn't work out so they moved him to get some value for him. The fact that value is a 1st rounder (even if a late one) is very good value. That pick could be used to move up further into the 1st round or it can be used to get a player. If Grier doesn't move Granlund, and other upcoming UFAs like Ceci, then we would have reason to be upset. Once Seguin went down and they put him on LTIR I knew this trade was happening.
