Steve Dangle recaps and analyses the deal made late last night between the Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins. Did Vancouver trade too much in exchange for Marcus Pettersson? Are the Penguins making the right call dealing assets

  1. The moment i saw Jim Rutherfors got a first rounder in the JT Miller deal i knew itd be gone almost immediately. I couldnt really judge the JT trade at the time because we didnt know what the 1st was going to get. Now that ive seen the entire trade I gotta say Im pretty happy with it. We were never going to "Win" a JT Miller trade on paper given the situation, but I cant help but feel that this move was good for the club medium to long term. Cant help but feel Jim isnt done yet though. I still think a Brock Boeser move is coming. I dont think the Canucks want to give Brock a long term big dollar contract and Im sure he would net a very nice return at the deadline.

  2. With Dallas aquiring Granlund+Ceci
I'm sure Colorado not being done Necas.
    Flames making deal
    Miller/Pettersson trade

Jets should start early like with Monahan and aquire see where at and if need make another move or 2 closer deadline like Miller/Toffoli do it.

    Guys I'd like
    Jaden Schwartz,Kadri,Teravainen,Byram/Cozens,Hayton,Sanheim,Provorov,Ristolainen,Pulock,Savard,Bjorkstrand,Eberle,Karlsson,Barzal/Horvat,Nyquist,Zacha,Parayko,Laughton.
Or get all shopping done 1 place
    RyanStrome+Dumoulin
    PavelZacha+Carlo

    Guys don't want
    Nelson,Gourde,Wennberg,Coyle,Evans,Jones,Zabinijad,Palmieri,Lindgren/KandreMiller,Donato,Robertson,Zucker,Armia,Dvorak,Zegras.

If Blues made Thomas,Kyrou,Schenn avaliable they could fit and I don't see ORielly comming here.

  3. Bro thinks desharnais is going to keep the puck out of the net 😭Have you watched him play this year?

  4. Vinny Desharnais fixing the Penguins back end is such a silly thing to say. If you need somebody to hug it out with a guy then he's your man.

  5. The Canucks are now the Vancouver Petes the same way the Avalanche are now the Colorado Woods.

  6. Good bet for pens based on what they’re trying to do- two guys who have underperformed and will be motivated; they’re roster players so you don’t get super worse right now so you can continue to maintain the delusion that you’re in the playoff hunt, while also picking up the 1st

  7. We need more D men we are not flipping Pettersson.

Also Rutherford said we might trade Miller and Pettersson he didn't say which way they would be going hahahaha

With Elias (the forward) and Elias (pronounced like Lindholm) (the defenceman) and now Marcus we could be well off.

  8. Not knowing why the Canucks got this Pettersson just shows you don't watch Canucks games – they really need him on their blue-line.

  9. Seems like a bit of an overpay for Marcus Pettersson. Would’ve topped out at a 2nd round pick instead I think. I’d have saved the 1st round pick to either use it, or possibly to pick up Brock Nelson at the trade deadline. Unless Pettersson had a bit more term.

  10. 5:00 … Who is saying Danton Heinen in on a bad contract? He's on pace for just over 25 points while his on ice goal differential is 2 ABOVE expected. That's worth $2.25 million.

On the other hand, Desharnais was a bad contract. He shouldn't be making more than league minimum.

  11. Lots of fair justification here, but the Canucks should of got alot more for JT. The only reasoning for the return was JT said he will only waive for one team, and NYR knew this before hand, or the Canucks GM is stupid

  12. Danton Heinen is more than his points. He should be no more than an average 3rd liner and is overpaid but not by much. His defensive game is really solid and he's a good PK and F1 and that's where his value comes from. Desharnais is not good.

  13. Vancouver now has a very good top 4 got a guy who can play on their second line for a guy they were gonna have to trade anyway

  14. Dubas has done an outstanding job as the Gm the problem is we can’t just tank because we can’t get Crosby out and we love him to much to trade him.

  15. What’s the over under point total next season for Deahanis Hienin and the mystery kid who’s struggling with grade 11 math.
Canucks picked up one of the top corsi d men in the league. For no one.

  16. As a Canucks fan, I will say this everywhere I can… The Canucks are not bad. They are not doing bad.
The situation in Vancouver has been pushed to the extreme by the pretty toxic media.

    Hughes + Marcus Petterson
    Hronek + Elias Petterson
    Myers + the rotation

A much improved D core right there from earlier in the season

  17. As long as he performs as expected, the canucks hit a home freaking run. JT Miller has been coasting all year. Heinen and Vinny were detriments on top of Miller's locker room and defensive issues. Our D core suddenly looks it's best in 12 years. And hopefully this team can just get back to hockey and having fun.

    Home run from Allvin/JR

  18. Great for the Canucks for some intangibles. Marcus Petersson will add a calming Swedish element voice to the team, and they are going to need that He's a really solid PK'er and is reliable and suprisingly fearless in that he'll stick up and get in some dangerous fights! O'Conner or OC as we called him, he really does have another level and his value should become immediately evident. He is/was under some sort of curse when it came to goal scoring, but I'm sure the clean air in BC will benefit him. Decent trade for both teams.

  19. This is a barely won day of trades for Vancouver, IF they both flop out of the playoffs and fail to extend Marcus P. Playoffs or extend MP, a win but still….hmm. Playoffs AND extend MP, big win.
Now, speaking as a die hard Canuck fan. Sad to lose Miller, but if you look at long range, Miller's 8M yearly is going to start aging badly, fast. Anyway…we have a decent forward pool as is, ranging up to pretty good when on all cylinders. The backend has been the weakness for years. Now, the acquisition of Marcus P does a couple of things. One, it gives us a sold second pairing. Two, it eases the minute burden on Hughes. Both are really good things.
