How concerning is the Leafs’ recent stretch of goaltending?

With Dennis Hildeby and Joseph Woll allowing three or more goals in seven straight games, ESPN NHL analyst Kevin Weekes joins SC with Jay Onrait to discuss how concerning the goaltending situation is for the Maple Leafs right now, how big of a loss Matthew Knies would be for Toronto after the forward left the game against Columbus with an upper-body injury, and the Blue Jackets moving into the first wild card spot in the East.

  1. Worst.game.ever.
Whole team played like ass, pissed wasted the money and drive time to this game tonight

  2. Theres no way this is a post. stolarz is hurt, their still on top of their division. We have injuries down the lineup. Woll played unreal the last few games especially against Montreal after the first.

  3. Is this a serious video? I’m not even watching it. We know Hilldeby isn’t quite there, Woll just had a few great games, and Stolarz is on his way back.

  4. Time to bring up Vyacheslav Peksa or Artur Akhtyamov because it sure won’t hurt to give Hildeby some more development time with the Marlies.

  5. As soon as I discovered Hildeby was going to be the Leafs' goaltender for the game, I said to myself "there goes the game". I don't find him reliable at all. It also seems the team doesn't play well in front of him either. What's the status on Stolarz?? How much longer will he be out. It could also be that the Leafs are following their old pattern of being great for x-number of games at the start/mid of the season, then falling like leafs off a tree.

  6. I've been saying before the year started goaltending was the biggest risk ….. but you would need to wait until February timeline to see the full effect. Two goalies that have not played many games at all in the NHL, Stolarz never in the playoffs, and both have a serious history of injury. Tree Livings one mistake this year – not getting a solid healthy veteran goalie.

  7. Knies that was not even significant contact – definitely another concussion. I hate to say it, seems like a solid player and nice person, but his career could be in jeopardy long term. I hope not, but he has to look after his long-term health.

  8. Are you guys serious? Do Leafs fans remember Toskala? Raycroft? How about Hutchinson or more recently Sparks and Samsonov? As a Leaf fans all my life, complaining about this seasons goaltending is a joke to me.

  9. Typically when a team’s top goaltender is injured and you have an AHL goalie playing occasionally your goaltending gets worse. Probably didn’t need a video to explain that.

  10. Hildeby is still a kid. He needs more AHL time. He has been adequate but not outstanding. Just hold on until Stolarz gets back. Woll has been great.
