ELITE RAYMOND & KASPER, SODERBLOM, JOHANSSON’S UPRISING ft. Fischer – Winged Wheel Podcast – Jan. 29

Lucas Raymond is elite, the youth movement has arrived in Marco Kasper, Albert Johansson, and Elmer Soderblom, and Hockeytown is buzzing.

Tune in as we open by discussing Dominik Shine making his NHL debut (00:00), and then getting into the Detroit Red Wings and their thrilling win over the Los Angeles Kings, including Moritz Seider’s own goal, Lucas Raymond quickly getting it back and then setting up Alex DeBrincat, Marco Kasper’s big night (looking off Dylan Larkin!), Elmer Soderblom’s game-winner, and lots more as Todd McLellan’s Red Wings made it 3 straight wins (even without Patrick Kane) (4:35). We then take a look at Detroit’s schedule ahead, their wild card NHL playoff chances, and some thrilling stats for Steve Yzerman’s squad since changing from Derek Lalonde to Todd McLellan (21:20).

Next, we have the age-old “is Lucas Raymond a superstar?” discussion, how he stacks up against the likes of Mitch Marner, Tim Stutzle, etc. (27:40), as well as the youth movement in Marco Kasper, Elmer Soderblom, and Albert Johansson, and what this means for their ceilings and future Red Wings (35:10).

After that, NHL news including Lilleberg’s suspension for his hit on Compher (and nothing for Kucherov’s trip on Rasmussen), the Vancouver Canucks, Rutherford’s comments on Petterson, J.T. Miller, Quinn Hughes, and Brock Boeser, the Utah NOT Yetis (Mammoth? Hockey Club?) (41:10) before hearing from Red Wings Director of Player Personnel Jiri Fischer on an important charity hockey game and the impact his work is making (and how it relates to his story) (58:00). All of that and LOTS more before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (1:10:55) – enjoy!

  1. Remember when you guys said Kasper was most likely going to end up a 3rd line center and his ceiling was 50 or 60 points?

  2. So many people wrote off Soderblom because he wasn't point per game on the Griffins.

  3. That own goal was a worst case scenario, but not the only time Mo's hands have come into question recently. I counted 3 times against tampa that detroit lost the zone on the powerplay because of Seider mishandling the puck.
Mistakes happen, Seider is still amazing, but there's area's that need improvement.

  4. Kasper has a higher ceiling than previously thought, and Ray is going to be a 100 point player. Raymond has elite vision, and he can totally change the course of a game. It’s exactly what we’ve been missing, an elite player.

This team is legit under Todd, and it finally feels good to be a Wing fan again. Go Wings.

  5. Do you guys think any of the players listen to this podcast? lol
I just imagine Marco listening to them sing his praises

  6. I know Brad and most others will say it's impossible but I believe if our top prospects keep flourishing at the high level talent that they have been doing so far then Detroit has no need to trade for forward bottom 6 depth if Kiiskinen, Buchnelikov, Mazur, Lombardi, Danielson or even Finnie transition to the NHL well enough with their development. It's just a matter of who's stays long term and who doesn't.

  7. FYI the NLL team in Colorado is the Mammoth so there is precident for a professional level sports team having that name… and they're one of the better teams in that league!

  8. It's great to see Ryan looking and talking to Evan. Brad really commands the narrative and I owe all but usually what Evan says, predictions or comments, are more meaningful.

  9. Even if we don't make the playoffs, if the youth continues to develop it's a big win. Redwing blackbird! Not sure that is what they named the team after?

  10. My initial and current choice for Utah has been their state animal..the elk. But in native American "Wapiti".

  11. Great to see Fischer, such a good guy.

The height of Brad away from prospect profiles 😂 Elite Evan chirp.

  12. If Edmonton somehow landed Rantanen, Bouchard is instantaneously gone. No way would Edmonton be able to match an offersheet.

I'd like to think GMs saw what St. Louis did last year with Broberg and Halloway and realize RFA is a valid form of talent acquisition.

  13. I strongly believe the Wing's would have at least 1 more cup of Jiri Fischer's career wouldn't have been cut so short

  14. UTAH FUCKING RAPTORS. How has that not been a front runner…idk how big of a dick the Toronto raptors would be but I doubt less than the yeti Corp

  15. Kasper has 100 point potential. It will happen a few times in his career. Kasper deserved to be a first line player since the season started Not sure why it wasn't done sooner but I'm glad Lalonde is gone. It seems that everyone ignored his IQ. It is elite. Plus he has the size and tenacity to go along with all his other skills. This is an elite, young, first line player.

  16. Don't sleep on Soderblom. He seems to be finding his way around the ice much better than he did a couple years ago. He could still break out.
