The New York Rangers began the month of January on a tear winning a bunch of games and making a strong push toward a wild-card spot in the east. But with how up and down the season has been and the Rangers probably not being true cup contenders the team will have some important decisions to make ahead of the upcoming trade deadline.

One might take a step backwards and ask whether there is any "Big Plan"?
Is there any plan at all?
Guys who once delivered results – aren't doing so anymore.
Definitely right that more toughness is needed. Announcers said a few games back,"You can't just watch them walk into your zone"
Not convinced on losing Reilly Smith – especially if we rebuild with young guys.
I agree, the Rangers need to start focusing on obtaining defensemen that can actually keep the opposing team out of the high quality scoring area's an stop making reckless passes with lead to odd man rushes against Igor. Rangers still give up so many high quality scoring chances per game. Doesn't matter how good Igor is on a nightly basis if the defense can't play consistent hockey.
Get rid of the core and start over with the young talented guys. And donāt waste them
The last 2 games were not much better then the start of the previous losing streak that devolved into sloppy lackidasical play.
When they their top guys don't score on 2 on 1's, breakaways, etc..,time after time, and at the first opportunity the other team does, you're not getting what you need to win games. If top paid players who are paid to score and win games are not getting it done, then you have to make changes. What would happen if al players were paid less and got paid more by making the playoffs and getting to each round until the cup? Basically performance driven contracts all the way through the playoffs. I think we would see a lot more players playing to their potential.
Probably the only team that gives up goals at the start and the end of each period at a regular basis. Need much better defense, young guys need to be worked in, they are wasting time. What are we doing here. It only takes a 3-4 game losing streak to fall out of any contentionā¦ they are on a 2 game one now. The next 5 games before the 4 nations break will tell us all we need to know.
