Sebastian Janikowski’s 76 Yard Field Goal Attempt (HD) – 2008 Week 4

On September 28, 2008, Janikowski unsuccessfully attempted a 76-yard field goal against the San Diego Chargers into the heavy wind right before halftime. This is presumed to be the longest attempt in NFL history; though the league keeps no such records on attempts, the longest known attempts previous to this were 74 yard attempts by Mark Moseley and Joe Danelo in 1979.

This is the Longest Field Goal ATTEMPT in NFL History.

  1. This almost seems like it’s going to be the norm in the future as it can also serve as a makeshift punt as we saw here

  2. Kevin Butler's 70 yard attempt while still at Georgia was a yard short. Course he had a field goal tee, but still amazing for the time in 1984. If it had been from the middle of the field instead of the far right hashmark, it would have been good. Butler could have kicked a 70 yard field goal in his NFL days if he had taken 5 steps like Tucker did when he made his 66 yard field goal for the Ravens.

  3. I thought he would have done better. I know he had a huge leg, but he was like 15 yards short, which is not really good at all for an elite kicker. Also the wind was at his back if you look at the flags. I bet he would have done if he got another attempt.

  4. Up 15 – 0 at home with 1 second left in the half and Janakowski as my kicker…
Yeahhhhh, im just gunna see what happens, too 😂😂😂.
I meannn, maybe not from freakin 76 yards, but im sending him out from 70 without even thinkin about it, lmao.
70 is already DAMN near impossible, but 76 is 100000% impossible, lmao.
Guys be hittin from 70+ in warm ups soo, it is possible to hit from that far. But, during a game when you have 11 othet GIANT men with a super high vertical jump and giant arms, it just makes it damn near impossible with the very low trajectory the ball has to be kicked at.

  5. If they threw a Hail Mary with one second, they might have got a touchdown. A field goal from 76 yards and wind blowing against the kicker, not possible. 😊

  6. They were like going to run the clock out and end of the half. I think Kiffin goes the wind direction confused for a second there.. because then it would have made sense and worth the shot vs ending the half.
