Jamie McLennan on Thatcher Demko’s play, who should start for the Canucks and more
TSN NHL Analyst and Former NHL Goaltender Jamie McLennan joined the guys and shared his thoughts on how difficult Thatcher Demko’s return is for him and who should take the majority of starts for the Canucks.
For this year, keep Demko as backup, work him up to snuff, because if you want to save this season, you need Lankinen to stay on his strong winning game. Demko can have this extra time to solidly heal and make his come back next season.
Please! Firstly, Demco has never been the best goalie. He's been spectacular and promising before injuries and setbacks. That was then ,now when he's in net he is not solid. He needs time to correct his game in Abby or on another team. Canucks can't afford his present play. š¢
Wow, defending this guy way too much. Heās been absolutely dreadful ānot playing his best?ā You mean heās freaking horrible!! Heās been dog shit you guys!
Unfortunately injuries are a part of the game. Demko, has one more year. He is not playing to the level expected, will he ever reach that level again? If one of the teams looking at Peterson or Miller maybe Demko is part of the formula. Demko is no longer an untouchable.
Miller asked for a trade internally after Tocchet threw him under the bus post game interview and the benching's. Miller then took a leave all pissed off at Tocchet and requested a trade at that point. Fans would hate Tocchet if he's the reason miller left so the whole Petey/miller bs was leaked by management. it's so obvious with the writing on the wall. Who leaked the Bruce firing? the same person who leaked the miller petey rumors…aka management
Demolition has proven to be too fragile for the big league. He hasnāt yet had a season where he has not been injured. Lankinen has shown enough to prove that heās a great number one goalie. I say trade Demko for a top D man.
You play Lankinen right now and only give Demko starts when Lank needs a rest. Demko isn't the goalie he was right now. He doesn't make the big save. So you have to go with Lankinen, and hopefully he can handle a starters workload.
Correction to Jamie McLennan: Petterson is NOT a top tier player, he's just a good average NHL player. We can all see that Petey is NOT a Quinn Hughes or a Connor McDavid or a Mackinnon etc. Wishing is not going to make it happen. His huge contract was a mistake. This is the kind of BS hype that excuses Petterson for his terrible stats, with the hope that maybe next year he'll come roaring back and show us why he is worth being paid as one of the franchise superstars of the NHL. Petey's basic problems were summed up by Ray Ferraro on Donnie and Dhali a few months ago: "He's not the fastest, he's not the strongest".
It's obvious that Lankenin is the winning goalie right now for Canucks, and Demko is rusty and out of shape. We'd all love to see Thatcher come back to the way he was, but for the rest of the season Lankenin should be #1.
TRADE DEMKO FOR ANYTHING. By the time he gets close to 100% he just gets hurt again. Then were spending months waiting for him to come back and finally play at 65% and eventually get hurt again.. Mean while we miss the playoffs and we let Lankenin leave town ( who IS a better a goaltender ) who wants 1/3 the money a perpetually injured Demko wants. Then we resign Demko and are trapped with him for many years to go following this same disaster. We need to cut ties NOW.
In my humble opinion, the meaning of a true franchise player has been greatly watered down since the days of Gretzky, Bossy, Hall, Esposito, Lafleur, Beliveau, Yzerman, Sakic, Selanne, Forsberg, Datsuk, etc. Many players have an outlier season and then claim that this is why they should be paid a franchise player salary. In the case of Boeser, how many disappointing years was he overpaid before he finally had the breakout season? Then the next question is whether he can truly sustain this production? I do not feel a player should be demanding a franchise-busting salary if they can not truly ensure they can deliver from game to game and season to season. Based on Demko's injury history, I really don't think he can promise that he will be able to maintain high-level consistent play game to game and season to season. This is where management, ownership, and fans need to stop this sentimental sabotage by getting too attached to re-signing certain players. After all, hockey is a business! I applaud the Avalanche mgmt. for their astute business decision and not handicapping their franchise well into the future with the eventual exorbitant AAV salary Rantanen was expecting.
Petey buying top tier vacations, cause he doesnāt need to work at all anymore ā¤šā¦ also itās when Demko will get injured, I think he self injures. Iām guessing in 2-4 games heāll be injured

Keeping Demko is a mistake this organization shouldnāt make.
