The Detroit Red Wings and their young guns have clawed back into this thing, all while the NHL trade world had a massive bombshell deal.
Tune in as we open (after commenting on the response to Kucherov’s trip on Rasmussen) (00:00) by discussing the home Hockeytown win over Lane Hutson and the Montreal Canadiens, including Dylan Larkin leading the way in his 700th game, Lucas Raymond’s increasingly elite abilities, Jonatan Berggren, Alex DeBrincat, and Andrew Copp contributing (after Simon Edvinsson’s block), & more (5:35). Next, Marco Kasper & Cam Talbot leading Detroit to a 2-0 win over Andrei Vasilevskiy & the Tampa Bay Lightning (even without Patrick Kane), including Kasper’s redirect, Albert Johansson’s fantastic play, Lilleberg’s hit to J.T. Compher’s head, a chippy game with Cirelli, Hedman & Co., and Nikita Kucherov’s dirty trip on Michael Rasmussen’s empty net goal (16:05).
After that, a look at how the Red Wings rookies have been playing steadily better under Todd McLellan, including Elmer Soderblom, and what that means for future players like Nate Danielson & Carter Mazur – as well as a look at where Steve Yzerman’s squad sits in the NHL wild card playoff race (28:45).
Next up, a look at the NHL Quarter Century Team for the Detroit Red Wings (Steve Yzerman, Pavel Datsyuk, Henrik Zetterberg, Niklas Kronwall, Nicklas Lidstrom, Chris Osgood, Sergei Federov, Dylan Larkin, Brendan Shanahan, Chris Chelios, Brian Rafalski, Dominik Hasek), and whether Jimmy Howard or Mo Seider deserved a look (43:50), as well as an update on Axel Sandin Pellikka’s plans to leave the SHL after this season to play for either Detroit or the Grand Rapids Griffins (48:20).
We then jump into the insane blockbuster trade that happened in the NHL, as the Colorado Avalanche sent Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes for Martin Necas (with Taylor Hall, Jack Drury, and other pieces coming into play thanks to the Chicago Blackhawks): what does this mean for MacKinnon, Makar & Co., how everyone did in the trade, whether the Red Wings can still sign Rantanen in free agency, where the Vancouver Canucks trying to thrade Elias Petterson and J.T. Miller fit into this, & more (51:40) before we take your questions and comments in our Overtime segment (1:17:25) – enjoy!

The lack of response to that trip was shameful.
Actual Incredibles quote: "When everyone's super, no one will be." Looking for the Wings to be one of the Supers.
"Big poopy-pants energy" made me laugh way more than it should have.
A perfectly disdainful description of that garbage move.
Lost all respect for Kucherov. Gutless play. Hope a message is sent next game they play. Starting lineup being Rasmussen, Soderblom, Austin Watson, Seider, and Edvinsson. Looks like Lightning is back in season.
How about Toews as a number 2 center?
The Bettman Era allows players like Kuch to do a sucker move like that w/O fear. Unfortunately any slash to his fingers or wrist next game will result in a suspension, in the past the enforcers of each team would have settled it on the ice. End of the day Kucherov gets away with that nasty ankle chop
Great discussion on the Rantanen trade!
Funny how this entire fanbase, including podcasters, put and imaginary ceiling on Kasper. Looking pretty dumb for saying 60 point 2C is his ceiling and he will most likely end up a 3rd line center. The fact people wanted to trade him for Cozens is crazy.
This fanbase has way too many fair-weather fans. They just show up in the comments to bitch and complain after losses. Can we all start shaming them please? So tired of the negativity in this fanbase. Idiots want Yzerman fried and say then rebuild is a failure. Meanwhile Edvinsson, Kasper, Johansson, Berggren and Soderblom are all on the Wings and doing a great job.
This is a pt we've saying for years in my family–Your drafted or developed undrafted players should never count against the salary cap. Retaining them should be exempt, you should never lose them because of salary cap issues. Reward teams and players for the hard work of development.
SUSPEND KUCHEROFF HE TRIS TO RUIN CARERS WE WILL SEE HOW SERIOUS THE INJURY INFLICTED ON RASMUSON
Johansson looked phenomenal, making numerous great blocks!
Your highest paid player has to be a dawg. Pattersson is not a dawg.
Necas would be a part of the Pettersson trade. Exactly what would be a Necas (+something) comparable who Detroit should give up to make Vancouver interested?
Y’all know damn well nobody fighting next game lol
Totally agree with you guys- the BEST part of Mclellan coaching is how obviously the young players are playing and developing better since he has taken over – look at the marked Improvements in Kasper, Johanssen, Edvinsson, Seider – all have seriously stepped up their games. Now Soderblom .
PP lost without Kane. Kucherov is a dirty prick. Always has been. Wings will do nothing. As usual.
Jimmy Howard is crazy 😂
Tampa Bayby poopy pants is such an accurate name for that team
Kucherov – Big poopy pants energy. Is so funny ha.
15:20 Sounds like a rule that should be called differently for a Stanley Cup clinching goal. Right, Buffalo fans? 😉
I also disagree with the ruling on the Fischer goal. Ras's trajectory, while driving towards the net, was not towards the crease or the goalie. Only when Tampa made contact with Ras, did his momentum shift towards the crease. His original path was across the top of the crease. The more I watched them going over it live, the more I thought it would be a goal. Then it started taking way longer than anticipated to what seemed like a pretty clear decision, I realized that they were finding a reason to not allow the goal.
Brad, what's a realistic trade for Pettersson? If I'm Vancouver, I'm laughing at anything that includes Copp or Compher.
Tarasenko: I think he's stuck at 299 goals and in his own head about it. If/when he gets that goal I think he gets going.
Rantanen being shocked and willing for paycut sounds like the "i just let my agent handle negotiations" approach backfiring big time. Like the agent effed around playing hardball and Found Out
100% in favour of bringing up the youngsters. We've talked about the rookies and how we've been unlucky in the draft positions but we also know that if we had a first round pick we'd just bury them in GR for 2 or 3 years. It's demoralizing.
Naytch-ass…Love it!!!
