I'd love to see the core in the playoffs one more time but in the long run, these piling losses might not be the worst thing for the Penguins. Put more balls in the lottery. Michael Misa would look great in black and gold.
I thought the Pens might have turned a corner after the little run they went on starting in late Nov, but it cannot be sustained because they don’t have the personnel.
I really don’t think it is about the system or the coach.
With the exception of #87, the skilled players on this team are too old, and the young players are not skilled enough for the team to be in the top half of the league.
The old guys don’t have the legs to consistently play both ways and the younger guys who hustle don’t have enough talent to help put enough points on the board.
No freaking way this team makes the playoffs. Blow it up and rebuild.
Pens have been stuck with average goalies for quite a while. Sometimes they have managed to have a great game.
Without a great goalie though they are lost because the defence is terrible. Graves is slow. Letang and Karrlsson are over paid, too old and a liability. Too much salary is tied up in those two defencemen and Jarry.
And, they keep trading any good prospects! McCann stood out when he played for the Pens but they let him go. Rodrigues had a lot of promise but made one mistake in the playoffs and was traded (I don’t know if it was because of the bad penalty).
They also traded a couple of other younger defencemen who were playing well. And Crosby seems lost without Guentzal.
Its just the end of this dynasty. Plain and simple. I look at this team with love still because of what they have accomplished and how lucky we were to have almost 2 decades of really good hockey and 3 cups won in 4 trips. Its still sad, yes. Im still thankful

Agree DK, energy and energy guys missing. First and Second lines trying but not coming how much necessary. Maybe also older stars players hold or put pressure in locker room, also coach. Younger SKATERS are afraid of making mistakes and they are in plaster.
Sometimes it makes sense to demolish an old house than to renovate it.

I really hope they don't make a run near end of season like last year because we know where that will end up…still missing the playoffs and getting a worse draft pick. they need to look in the mirror and know that this team is not up to snuff against the Bruins, Rangers, Senators, Lightning, etc. Dubas, man up, and start making some moves
The Washington Capitals, committed to a rebuilt 3 years ago. Penguins wanted to hold on to the past. Look at the standings. I think the Capitals made the right decision.
Idk what to say!! A loss is almost expected every night! Maybe it’s time for Dumbas to step down? Maybe it’s time for the big fire sale to commence? Who knows!

Anyone who thinks EK has improved doesn't watch the games. Has his offense improved? Yes. He blows on D, he is not a guy you win with, and proof is no team he's ever played for has won a damn thing
Why did Sullivan scrap the POP line when they were bringing energy and grit?
I'd rather be rooting for a young team that loses than continue watching an old team treading water.

While Dubas has made some wrong decisions, Hextall started this debacle with his F’d up moves!
Guys, this team just isn't very good or very competitive. Stop pretending! Look, we can continue to pretend this is an elite team and continue on the current track or we can accept, trade the chips that will bring a future, and make this a fast retool/rebuild. Its ok! 20 yrs of amazing hockey. It was a great run but it's time to admit and change.
DK, do you ever get the sense being around Sully that he feels like my way or no way? Scotty Bowman always said he'd play different line combinations differently based on the players, whereas Kevin Constantine was 100% structured to his system and everyone must play his way.
Emil Bemstrom is the leading scorer for the WBS Penguins. He is over a point per game player and had a hat trick and 4 points in their last game. He’s still only 25 years old. Bemstrom has been 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

this team rarely plays to its potential, to me thats on coaching

This roster is a bottom 10 team. I said that in the off season, when they were in the playoff spot and today. The list of 'analytics' players they got that have great underlying stats, don't have the intangibles. Someone wrote below the dynasty is over, sadly it is, I was hoping and thinking that probably Sid will win one more, you know because he does, but this team doesn't have the roster to make the playoffs, don't have the young guys in the minors to make a difference (they are 3rd line contributors and maybe a second line winger)….and I have ZERO faith in Dubas making the right moves to get the right guys…..well only because his whole career he never has. He has built a roster on analytics…and doesn't have the hockey sense to know the players that have the intangibles…not Glass, not Tomasino, not McGroarty. I've been pretty bang on on predicting things with the Pens since Dubas got here (was horrible predicting under GMJR)…so I'll bet on this.
I loved your assessment at the end on Sullivan's system and the lack of actually getting a roster constructed that would fit the system….I agree this roster was not constructed well…
A coaching change has been needed for years…..that will likely not happen. There's always next year!!! Right??

Good morning, DK. I hope you had a great weekend. Now that your podcast is a daily listen for me, I'm actually bothered during the weekends when you don't do your Daily Shot's 😢😂 There were a couple others I used to listen to, but yours is far superior. Ok, my point/question….and no I'm not beating up Sully, Sully's system worked GREAT in 2016-2020, but why?? First, our core was younger and had legs. Second, the supporting cast was faster, more ENERGY, and more skilled. And last, they were the right players who all bought into his system! I believe I stated this in a comment quite awhile ago. How Dubas looks to build a team vs a team that suits Sully's system seems to be waaaaay off. Sully is known to sit "the kids" and Dubas is stockpiling Wilkes, something has to give, when? Am I way off here? Might it be when Sully gets the pink slip? I may have given you a loaded comment/question but it's been on my mind. God bless you DK, Victor 🙏❤️✝️

To me the Kraken game spelled the end to the Pens. Blomqvist played great and the rest of the team played fine (based on the way the Pens are supposed to play).but just another loss. I think most of us like Sully, but I think his time here should be over and it is time for a total team makeover. I just dont know that Dubus is the right person for this job. I think the right thing to do is just ride out the season with what they have and overhaul the team in the off season starting with Dubus. A couple trades in season just isnt going to matter much.
Can we stop already. This is a .500 team at best and have been all year, if not the last few years. I have no desire to barely make the playoffs and be one and done.

I'm done with hearing about the deadline, besides a little blurp in the middle this whole season has been a write off, and Dubas hasn't done anything to change the direction of the team, this includes Sullivan. We have heard for years about being tough to play, about paying attention to the details, or playing the right way……….yet here the team sits. We watched a power play last year sink the playoff hopes, why, because nothing was being done to change it. Tonight is not the deadline for making drastic changes, that has come and gone. There is no asset left that pushes this team forward, so Dubas should trade everyone before they are left with nothing but AHL players. I just wish Sid would demand out of Pittsburgh, what a disrespectful end to his career, there's nothing to play for with 30 games left!!!!
