  1. Both teams took an L in their first match after the trade. Will be interesting to see where this goes, not that a whole team is hanging on ONE player or TWO. Necas looked pretty fitting into the line-up, he's fast and guess the chemistry could start to develop. Rantanen got some really good shots in, good boardbattles, but sadly no goals.

  2. Typical hyperbolic comment “this trade changes the landscape of the NHL” all the nhl YouTubers are like this. Its super annoying

  3. Heartbroken over the loss of Moose, but, like you, I understand and would rather get a good (maybe great as he develops) return than just let him walk later for a big payday. I've advocated trading Mikko for Igor when the goalie situation was still up in the air (prior to the beautiful Woods solution). That said… If this is it, they’ve decided this is a lost season and it’s a long play for next year. I don’t (and don’t want to) believe this. I think this is part of a strategy (like paying Blackwood and Taser) to broaden and deepen the talent pool around Nate Dogg and Makar.

I hope this is part of a bigger second act, maybe JT Miller (for Miles Wood & Manson?). But whatever part 2 is better not involve Richie being shipped… he's a big part of being able to extend our window.

  4. I thought Avs did pretty good for what they have to work with. Should have seen it coming but we didn’t. Lost in all this anger and doom from the Avs camp is the simple fact everyone loves Mikko. He is beloved here and on the team. Take away that and this was actually a good move

  5. No doubt Rantanen was a core player in Colorado. They have some work to do to replace that void Rantanen leave behind. On the other hand Hurricanes really need this to take next step in hope to win the cup someday. Landeskog is a mystery right now. Is he able to come back and play at same level he used to before injury? Avalanche presumably count on that. Interesting to see how Rantanen and Necas plays in their new teams. We just have to give them few games.

  6. You mentioned Landeskog very briefly, but I have to believe that was part of Colorado’s thought process too. To me this would seem to signal they feel good about Landy coming back and being productive.

  7. I think Colorado won this trade, if and only if, Carolina doesnt win the cup. Even if Carolina re signs him, its an arm and two legs to do so. The blackhawks? I feel are completely stupid in this. I guess they got 1.37M in cap space but i didnt realize that cap space was an issue and 4.6M for a that and their 3rd round pick for hall sounds asinine on paper.

  8. You really cannot build a competive team if you pay more than 40% of the cap to three players… See Florida and Devils who are in a great situation for years to come. I think Necas is a steal for two years, but will probably be too expensive after that. It's going to be tough for Oilers to compete when McD signs for $16-18M…

  9. From Rantanen's point of view, something good, in that when a Finnish guy gets angry, he usually starts doing things more efficiently, Perkele!

  10. Nate and Mikko both said it was news them when Mikko got the news. Marty had an assist and hit the crossbar twice. Hes looking good on Macks line. He has that speed that Mikko doesnt
