Earlier this season when the New York Rangers traded away their former 2nd overall pick in Kaapo Kakko they acquired defenseman Will Borgen and two draft picks (3rd + 6th round picks). Now the Rangers have given a big $4.1m extension to Borgen that will last the next five seasons. The Rangers also gave Borgen a partial no-trade clause for his entire extension.

Congratulations Will
I'm ok with extending Borgen. His play has been ok, and I think he's Played a part in renovating the rangers D.
Way better than Trouba! And he doesn’t get caught out of position 5,000 times a game. 4.1? Worth it. Now sign miller to an identical contract for 3 years.
5 years kinda bothers me , a 3 would've felt better I'm not angry or anything, not 100% sold on him either. I think he could be a nice chip in a package for a better option but whatever .
he's a nice piece…but i don't think it's a great move. i think we would have been better off trading him for picks or prospects. but this sums up the Rangers when it comes to player management. They fumble a skilled kid who could have been a big part of the team's future and trade him for pennies on the dollar…and end up spending more money on a defenseman who's a solid player and all…but this feels like doubling down on the failure that we made out of Kakko Kaapo.
This extension seems like a good deal. For a player of Borgen's Caliber, the amount per season is good. A five year deal means his deal runs out when he is 33. So this signing feels like Lindgren is all but being traded away before the deadline or, on the day of the deadline for trades. Cause this feels like the type of of deal Lindgren would've been offered, if the Rangers had planed on keeping him but, they gave this deal to Borgen's over Lindgren.
The Kakko – Borgen trade seems one of those rare instances where both players and both teams benefit. This defenseman is a good playmaker, and he and Miller have become an effective pair (still room for improvement).
New arrivals Smith, Carrick and Borgen appear to be part of the reason for the slump ending. Just shows that every good trade need not be a big splash for a major star – landing a few solid role players can make the difference as well.
I do like Borgen but not for five years at 4 mil.
im 1 of the fans VERY happy about the Kakko trade. the kid was a hollow shell out there, we're lucky to get a bag of pucks for that kid – who cares what he is doing elsewhere cause he wasnt bringing it here in NYC, we got 3 new bodies for 1 & just signed 1 for longterm….GREAT TRADE! Screw the toxic fans talkin shyt HALFWAY THRU THE SEASON!
Borgen and Miller have been solid together in hard deployment, but this is definitely risky.
Time to start seeing the Lindgren trade rumors become more frequent. It should be interesting to see which teams, other then the Red Wings have an interest in Lindgren.
I strongly believe that the signing of Borgen means that K’Andre Miller will also be resigned. Borgen’s played very well since joining the team, but more importantly it’s Miller playing like a top(!) pair D-man with Borgen being a rock solid D-partner next to him that’s led to the signing today. On a side note… Borgen is currently working on his 3rd straight 82 games played season.
