11m would be my max for Rantanen. He's an elite player but he's not a center and he's not quite at the MacKinnon, McDavid, or Draisaitl level where he can take over a game on his own and be worth that 14m day in day out. 14m for him in my view is overpaying. He rejected 12m from Colorado so all the indication was or is that he wants his 14m and he's going to go where ever he can get it. So Colorado did the right thing to trade him now and get some returns for him before he walks. Hockey is a business first and foremost and at this point it's better for the Avs to let some other team give Rantanen his 14m.
Can’t blame management when it’s all Mikko’s fault for being greedy. He is asking for way too much. And he clearly doesn’t care about winning or he would of taken 12 M and stayed with Avs

Trading away a home-grown superstar out of the blue like this for sure impacts the team mentally. I get the feeling that the mental aspect of losing Mikko has even a bigger impact than not having him there on the ice.
It’s not about talent for the Avs. It’s about effort. They need to play with the grit we had in the cup run. We haven’t played with that competitiveness since then. Starts with defense and goes from there

I think the Avs FO made the best of of the situation considering the circumstances. That being said its a pretty bad look if Nate truly didn't see the trade coming. Gotta keep your star players in the loop on trades like these, but maybe that reflects more on Mikko than it does on Chris MacFarland.
Lost a piece of the AVS that made their identity. He will be missed and I hope the best for him.

GMs will never understand the emotional side of the game. This is the start of the downfall of Colorado just wait. Rant was Mack’s best linemate. It’s the same as if Leon left Conor or Mitch leaves Austin. You very well could trade a great player and make another great player leave.
at this point there is multiple reports the Avs are looking for another C. I don't know if Miller is that guy and there have been some reports out there about the Islanders Brock Nelson. With the heartbreak of losing one of the best friends and possibly even adding more new guys (sooner than later) you really have to ask yourself about any chemistry this team might have.
