Join Chris & Sammy as they discuss the Montreal Canadiens’ loss versus the Detroit Red Wings won Thursday night. As Sam Montembeault & Jakub Dobes keep splitting goaltender duties, the boys also raise the question as to who should start the next game; & should the better of the two start for most of the games heading forward.

DOBES
Pretty disappointing game. PP1 slipped back into the bad habits of earlier in the year. You can expect Laine to stay near the left faceoff circle and Hutson to stay high, but Caufield, Slafkovsky and Suzuki need to be in constant movement. They weren't moving last night.
I feel like keeping Monty as the starter is part of the Hughes plan, a plan that so far he has not deviated from despite pressure from fans and media. If the team's rebuild is where it is supposed to be (I agree with Chris, the progression has been really nice), then I don't see a point to trying to accelerate Dobes' development, where shellshock from team regression will ruin the kid. See how the Sabres almost wrecked Devon Levi with the same type of move, making him a #1 goalie in his rookie year. Goalies need time. This is not yet a team that will beat a #1 seed in a 7 game series so I prefer to stick to the plan. Montembeault is older and more mature to absorb the shock of a team regression that is sure to come.
