I hate to lose Necas, but I know the Canes just got objectively better.
I guess that's the sign of a good trade right? When you don't have to like it, but you can't argue that your team is now better for it.

Mikko, Mikko, Mikko!!!!!! This is as big as the Jake Guentzel trade last year. Gonna be fun to see how he pairs up and how the power play lines look.

This trade also reminds me of the 05-06 acquisitions of Mark Recchi and Doug Weight. Two primed vets that knew how to win. If this plays out anything like that, WATCH OUT!!!!!
I don't like this trade even though rantanen a better player than necas rantanen is pretty much a rental you had necas on a two year deal
to be fair to Drury, he requested that trade when he was more or less a healthy scratch with paul stasney and derek stepan both able to play his 4C spot. I think he's become much happier with his more permanent spot over the last 2 seasons.
Necas however was recent, and in my eyes he was as good as gone the second he hit free agency after the 25-26 season, and I dont think his value would ever be higher on the Canes than right now.

Mikko Rantanen is an absolute beast. I remember couple of seasons ago when half of Avs roster was injured including Nathan Mackinnon, and Mikko was able to carry the team on his back playing as a center. He scored almost every goal they made. Because of Mikko, Avs was able to able to win good amount of games with half of roster missing. He might be even better without Mackinnon when he is the top guy. 😀
All this for Carolina to lose to the Rangers in the 2nd round again.

One thing you haven't considered is that you now get to shout, "THE MOOSE IS LOOSE!!!" every time Mikko scores. That's an obvious win for Carolina.

Remember Taylor Hall won back to back memorial cups with Windsor. I think he was mvp in both. If you’re not familiar those are very hard trophies to win. Cheers

Finally a goal scorer and two way player to fit the scheme; Drury didn't want to be here long term and wanted a bigger role and Necas wanted to play center and wanted a bigger role something Rod didn't want to do. Honestly not surprised we got rid of Necas because of the wanting of a long term deal and clearly that was not in the cards for him in Raleigh.
This team has money to lock up Niko should we choose !!! You don't give up a younger goal scorer for a proven goal scorer to let them hit the open market. At 28 years old Niko is a beast this team needs and immediately upgrades the top six. Taylor Hall is solid to LW veteran and we are not tied to him past this season .
Main point of this deal is hopefully Miko regarding Taylor Hall seems more like a rental and the fact that we give the Av's there draft pick back an the Av's retain over $4.5 million of Miko's salary is a great deal for Carolina.
Fingers crossed we can sign Miko long term which we will have the money to do ; Burns, Orlov, F. Anderson , J. Fast, E. Robinson, T. Jost etc… we will have money to spend in the offseason.

Colorado made the mistake of selling Rantanen off, Rantanen usually being the one who has saved Colorado when there have been injuries. I think Colorado's general manager fired close in the summer

Yeah, it looks great this year, but history shows us that these players traded to us are NOT going to resign with the Canes…so it's a rental. At this point, i'm kind of used to the Canes disappointment. I hope it works out, both short AND longterm.
