  1. You can probably tell, but the mic I’m holding did not work and you are hearing the iPhone audio 😬. I’ll have it fixed for next time.

  2. Nothing wrong with the hit. Blood started when he hit the ice, not from Reaves. But, as hockey follows society, we no longer have real playing hockey anymore. Bunch of wimps. I remember when I was a kid and blood was present in injuries … no big deal. And definitely no suspensions. Both these players and the league have to man up. Stop being beta males (i.e., Harris voters) and start behaving like manly men.

  3. Not as bad as the Jeannot hit; If Nurse is standing up straight, it is a clean check. Not how he was standing, so an ugly heat shot results.

  4. This is completely anecdotal, however, I believe that THIS Department of Player Safety operates as a management of the popular narrative commission. If your team sucks up a ton of oxygen in the community (Leafs) your players are held to a higher standard then players whom play for teams with less media / fan / hockey Twitter noise around them.

This department of player safety … if Reeves was on CAR, DAL, FLA, STL (etc) 2-4 games. If Reeves was on MTL, VAN, (etc) 4-5 games. Because Reeves is on the Leafs 5-7 games +.

  5. Jesse – love your commentary and analysis of hockey, but man do you have a bad take on head injuries. Concessions are serious injuries and can easily lead to long term chronic diminishment of mental capability. How many former players need to have horrible side effects before head injuries are taken seriously?

  6. League should mandate chin straps be tightened under the under the chin, nurse would have been less hurt, keep helmet on the head.at one point his helmet was on top of his head, with his strap so loose it was still fastened

  7. It was a bad hit, any head shot is, like discussed on broadcast, reaves was expecting nurse to skate around the boards, but nurse skated around net and headed up ice

  8. I hated the hit, It did a lot to also hand this game to The Leafs; love him or hate him Nurse makes up A LOT of the back end for The Oilers and they really struggled defensively after they lost him. It's not like having Reaves out of the lineup hurts The Leafs at all, The Oilers were already down players and to loose their top minute D man is rough.

  9. My guess is he gets 6 games for this hit on Nurse as Reeves has been suspended previously for a hit to the noggin. The intangible here is the intent to injure. In my opinion, I don't think Reeves meant to cause injury.

  10. Think some of these comments would be singing a different tune if a leaf got knocked out like that.

  11. It was a bad hit, but not on purpose or intentional. He will get games, not double digit, but minimal 5.

  12. "Vicious" – the hit wasn't deliberate. Suggesting it was viscous is just bad faith – Brutal accident sure, but not vicious.
Reaves was going for the hit / stick check on the puck combo – correct
BTW – only one other Reaves suspension was for a head shot – and it wasn't deliberate either – and it was more than 18 months ago – not a repeat offender by NHL standards.
At the end of the day, there's only one person responsible for your safety on the ice… you. Sure the offender will be suspended, but that is of little consequence when you are the one with scrambled brains at age 53.
Generation X (my generation) learnt to stickhandle with our heads up – and to be aware of what going on around you.
Same goes for when players "show their numbers" at the last second and the incoming hit sends them into the boards head first.

  13. terrible hit, probably 5 or more, Reaves has been suspended before for hitting to the head, so they could throw the book at him

  14. Not on purpose of course. Nurse shouldve paid attention.

Still a hit to the head boys..

  15. Dont think the head contact was what he was going for, but it doesnt matter. Shoulder right to nurse's head on a guy with a few sus's and fines. likely 4-6 games. should be 7-10 to make an example of head hits like that but its a leafs player so likely the low end.

  16. Its already been reported that it's an over the phone hearing. So it wont be more than 5 games. In my opinion, the Jeannot hit was worse, and he got 3 games. Reaves has a history though, so I say 4 games.

  17. The Leafs fans DID NOT GO SILENT…..THEY ACTUALLY BOOED THE CALL….Listen to it yourself.
Classless garbage organisation and fanbase since 1967.

  18. The fines need to be relevant to the injured players salary, in this case Nurse makes $9.25 million or just over $112,000 per game, so five games he should be fined $$560,000 Im sure he’d think twice about hitting top paid players again. That’s how the league needs to get serious about these goons.
