   Colorado won. I feel like Necas playing with MacKinnon and Makar is easily going to be better than Rantanen not playing with those two. Also Rantanen might be just new Huberdeau. Maybe not that bad but not far from it. He did play with to best players in the world.

    What did Chicago get out of this trade. It seems to me that the salary retention alone is worth more than they got, and I don't think that Taylor Hall is a throw-in type of player. Crazy!

    FYI – The Blackhawks got their own 3rd round pick back. essentially, it’s almost a second round pick being in the low 60s compared to what would be an average 3rd round pick in the 70-90s

    I've been an Avs man since the mid-90s. There is no denying Moose's offense, but his defense lackluster at best. Avs will have to pay Makar and Landy and is coming back also. I believe Avs will be fine throughout all this.

    As a Canes fan, I'm excited, but I also have a "wait and see" attitude here. Will Rantanen actually be able to provide that playoff spark and help get us over that hump? Or will this just be a repeat of the Guentzel fiasco from last season, where he came in to a similar giant fanfare, but then did little for us in the playoffs and then dipped?

    We know the Canes are good in the regular season. The real test comes playoff time.

    Carolina is historically cheap and doesn’t pay premiums for contracts. If Miko walks and signs elsewhere in the summer then this is a horrible trade by Carolina.

    This could be an absolute steal for Colorado… Necas 2 years younger, cheaper, only 9 points behind Rantanen on a more defensive style team.

    Wait an see how he performs playing with Mac and Makar.

    Great deal for the Avs. Rantanen is the most overrated player in the NHL right now. He only has the points because he plays with the best. He’s lazy and absolutely disappears in the playoffs. Necas on the other hand is young, and producing at the same level as Rantanen, without the help Rantanen hast. Sakic plays chess, not checkers!

    For those who are wondering why the Hawks would do this. The Hawks were at most getting a third round pick for Hall but in a straight up trade for Hall, they would have to retain some of his $6 mil contract. Instead what they were able to do was trade all of his contract and retained half of Mikko’s contract ($4 mil) and was able to get their third round pick back which is a very high third round pick instead of Carolina’s which may be the last pick in the third if all things go well for them. Say what you want, I like Davidson and I don’t think this was as bad of a move as these fans are freaking out like it is. Those who say that Davidson needs to be fired need to stop crying, they only started the rebuild in 2022 and it takes time, imo they should still be a top 5 draft team next year as well. They still need to build up and patience is the key here. Right now Davidson is doing good, look into their prospect pool it’s exciting, the bigger question is how he does when the team is ready to compete. For those crying that this year they should be competing, you are unrealistic, nuff said.

    So…

    Canes get 30ish regular season games plus Playoffs games of half-price Rantanen plus rights to negotiate his 14+M extension. Minus Necas, Drury, and picks. That sounds like a huge gamble that can pay off. If Canes win the Cup (or, like, a game in Conference Finals). Ah, yes, also Taylor Hall, who can be good. At least, in Boston.

    Avs get Necas, Drury, and some picks to flip at the deadline to get a 6-7th D-man and a middle-6 forward. Kinda better than losing Rantanen for nothing, kinda not good (but maybe still fine?) for this year's Playoff run.

    drury is 58% on faceoffs
    colorado sits 31st on draws
    this is such a needed factor
    drury to play 4c and can hop in for an important face off in the opposing Zone when we need a win

    Be interesting to see how all the players adapt to the systems. Canes definitely not as offensive minded as the Avs. Might be easier for Necas to adapt than Mikko.

    Massive win for Avs, Necas does not need MacKinnon, even playing with Mittelstadt is huge upgrade over playing with Kotka, could see him produce 90+ points steadily there. This trade is going to be historical for Avs. Good luck getting 14 milion while being barely point per game player in Carolina lol, he gets resigned for 9 if he is really really lucky.

    I'm an Avs fan so obviously I was both shocked but not surprised by this move. I hate seeing Mikko go but with the alleged contract stalemate I would rather them get something out of him as opposed to him walking away for nothing. I prefer to keep Mikko forever but with the contract he is looking to get, I would rather not be in a Toronto situation. Marty Nachos, my nickname for him that I will try to get to stick, is a guy I have really enjoyed watching this season. What do you think about the Avs trying him out at 2c?

    This is tough to take as an avs fan. But it’s a solid return if he was going to walk, because he does deserve 14+ with the cap going up. And that would have ruined the depth more than it is right now.
