Trying this new format here, first time scripting and trying voice overs like this, not sure if it turned out that well, to be honest.
Would love some honest feedback!
I think you did a great job! I love your top quality game highlights, you always have the best post game highlights. However, i'd like to see more of these as well!
Maybe the fact that heās a Career Minus 31, and a āMinus 16ā this year alone speaks to something. He was never worth the money theyāre paying him and he Still makes boneheaded mistakes even as a 9 yr vet, isnāt strong on the body in his own end, etc, etc. Get rid of him while you can.
Heās been a mediocre player for the last two seasons, with the Leafs having a winning record without him on the ice. Dudes the embodiment of the leafs: they like to win, but they donāt hate to lose.
Slow Mo cant find his way in Berube's system
He got married.
He has always lacked something defensively, he's always been a fine player offensively and he really hasn't taken to the system. Defensively he looks like a kid lost in the supermarket, "stand here and wait till mom finds me." Myers has not been a great foil for him because he is a similar player. Luke Schenn brought the best out of Mo. Haakenpa is MIA, he fits the Schenn mold, but only had two games to demonstrate it. Tanev and McCabe are too perfect together to break up long term.
They either have to give him a new change of scenery, or find the right kind of defensive defenseman that can work with Mo.
You did a mighty fine job, maybe try to be a little more assertive in your voicework, that could also be a mic issue.
2nd string player that the Leafs fan base and media pretended was the second coming of Bobby Orr. L O L
.5 PPG and -31 career – HE SUCKS! GET IT INTO YOUR HEADS. HE SUCKS!
He should be playing forward as a marner lite. He's never been a good defensemen, his offensive abilities have obfuscated that fact until now.
He was never good defensively. I was always of the opinion that he emulated Gardiner too much, and Jake was allowed to get away with murder, not hustling on defense, not picking up some of the basics of playing effective D, not being willing to pay the price to help his team. Gardiner was the master of defending a 2 on 1 by not doing anything, don't away the pass or the shot, and he was rewarded for this time and time again. Every time he made a mistake that cost his team, his coach would have to put him on the ice and set him loose to go all out on offense. Rielly didn't take long to become better defensively than Jake, but that is pretty low hanging fruit, and he never did become good in his own end. I believe that if Berube had been here ten years ago, Rielly would have figured out what it took to be good defensively, and Gardiner would have been out of town as fast Liljgren was booted. Rielly isn't going to change his game now, not this far into his career and with that contract. There are guys that figure out what is needed to play effective defensive hockey later in their career, Hainsey was an offensive d-man who was never great at the NHL level offensively, so he had to get very good in his own end or else find a different career. Anton Stralman was another one who many teams gave up on, because he was an offensive d-man who wasn't that great on offense and didn't really want to learn the D early in his career but eventually realized he had to unless he wanted to leave the NHL and go back home. Those guys were fighting for their jobs, their careers, they were not locked in at 7.5 million for years to come. The biggest hope is that Rielly is still adapting to fatherhood and will get back to what we expect from him, exciting offense and borderline adequate in his own end, because no other would take on that contract for that player now
Cut him loose heās always been overrated
He's a good, solid player. What's the problem?
He's having a down year. Shit happens sometimes. You didn't throw away one of the best because of one year.
Rielly and his wife just had a kid in August. That changes a man. He becomes a father for the first time. You have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. Being a professional athlete requires incredible focus. Adding a newborn to the mix can alter that focus for a bit. Give the guy time to adjust to his new reality.
Get rid of him!
He started life off as a forward ,put back on defense by coach daddy so he could get more ice time heās been caught up ice tooo much and heās tooo slow to get back in time, heās an offensive first defender
I think this presentation was good . I really liked the choice of background music ( kind of jazzy ) . This has a documentary style feel to it .Your non intrusive voice over is relaxed and informative . I don't know what your background is but it seems to me you have talent in editing , narration and video presentation . A solid package !
Steady decline for years honestly. Get rid of him!!!
I think you are missing some important facts.
1. Not a natural born defensive-man.
2. When he learn to play hockey it was at the LW position. His dad changed his position later in his development to LD to give him more ice time . Hence is offensive capabilities as an offensive defencemen.
3. All the teams in junior's, WHL, AHL & NHL that he played for were and used an offensive structure that afforded him to roam as player coming out from the d-zone.
4. His greatest weakness is his defensive capabilities and his inability to stand up to players at the blue line. His unwillingness to block players out the boards and pinned them along the boards. Players often beat him outside when he is skating backwards.
5. In the Chief's system it cancels out the roaming d-man. Defence is based on a two player tandem. McCabe and Tanev demonstrate this effectively at times.
6. His deficiency's have been hidden and often overlooked over the years. He's a great guy and therefore people don't write bad things about him. He creates more problems than there needs to be.
7. His ability to log huge minutes only compounds his mistakes.
8. He and Tanev don't hit their opponents. Worst in defence but Tanev can contain the opponent whereas Rielly can't.
9. He is number 1 on the team in defensive zone giveaways with 59.
10. He last on the team in % of shift starts in the d-zone.
He'll be fine, just gotta get through the first little while with the young baby
He was never a great player. He can't take a slap shot and rarely hits the net when he shoots. Trade em
he sucks defensively, always has… the thing now, is that his (lack of) offense doesn't make the defensive shortcomings negligible.
Rielly needs a booming shot compliment from the point from a more stay at home style player. He's green lit to rush by coaching, so he's going to get stuck. He has a decent seeing eye shot but prefers to skate with the puck and move into passing plays causing him to get caught out of position. The rest of the team also needs to adapt and cover his pinches. He's a Kaberle without a McCabe.
Like most of the team, there's too much emphasis on the perfect pass/play. We need to simply get more traffic and more shots on net and stop trying to be too fancy. Having a better point shot option next to him will cause the wingers to focus more on the D and open up the ice a little for the star forwards.
While Rielly is struggling, he's a difficult player to replace, and losing him means we would have to look for a similar player to fill the gap which is not easy to do. He's flat out the best offensive D-man we've had since 2000. Give him time and let's hope he figures it out. Offensive D-men are always going to be a liability in the trade off for offense, so it's up to the coach to have the team properly adjust when he goes in.
People making excuses about a down year, but no, this is who Rielly is in a Stanley-Cup winning system. Florida sent Weegar packing, and it's worth thinking about if he's not willing to evolve. There is a clock on this team, and I'd say the optimal window is this year and next year because you're not going to get Stolarz and Woll at a cheaper price than right now. Tanev and Tavares aren't getting any younger either. Time is now.
PS: I don't care about his contract. There are a lot of cards you can play to get rid of a guy. Vegas would do it and Toronto needs to be more like Vegas. Berube has elevated so many players on this team – even Conor Timmins! – and yet Rielly is the most disappointing player on this team by a mile this year. Evolve or leave. I want to win a cup. I am tired of waiting.
Leafs are stuck with this dud for years.
Impossible to trade that contract. Waive all day he is not a piece on a cup team. His horrible playoff record does not lie.
What's wrong is he should be playing on the wing not D
I'm sorry man, he has to go. His defence is horrid. He's friggin -16, he's overpaid and he cant produce on the PP.
Rielly definitely hasn't been great this year. You could say he's just not a good fit under the Berube system. But he's probably just lost a step and his game requires him to have that step to be effective.
Reilly would be a great 3rd line forward. His speed would be great for the forecheck. Iāve said it since Gardiner got run out of town. Look at his turnover stats as well as +/- over the same period of time as Gardiner. His stats are worse yet because Reilly was putting up a 70+ point season then āleaf fansā thought he was Norris caliber. He is a negative player in his own end and isnāt scaring any defender with his shot because he doesnāt use a slap shot, especially on power plays. If Reilly was a winger, heād be setting guys up left and right as he does have a decent passing ability.
My pet peeve with him is he is often on the forecheck and pinching down so far as to be behind the opposing teams net. No place for a defenceman to be.
he overthinks and hesitates too much.
I dont care Riely or MM, but they have to trade someone just to end this "assisted living" and get to them. There is just zero urgency.
The voice over mini doc is a nice format. The music choice is good. It creates an uncomfortable mood for an uncomfortable topic! We do expect some kind of resolution, however there is none forthcoming. An interesting choice of format, well done and will be interesting to see how it pans out for you. Nice.
is this a LeafsJellyHD exclusive? nice to see you branching out, try something new š
Because Ive also went through this lately… its 100000% because he has a new kid at home. When 'dads' have a new kid (and first kid). their entire lives change. Sleep schedule changes, their wife changes etc…. trust me trust me. Same thing happened this year w/ Zach Hyman (althoguh Zach has more than 1 kid). Its becuase of a new baby. Morgan will come around soon, dont worry. IM sure he knows and he will hire a nanny or 2
Reilly should be traded too many excuses he makes the team worse look at the stats
Heās been fine. Leafs fans stop trying to ruin good things.
leave Mo alone! its a team effort and you could say the same thing about Marner and Mathews. its not like those two are performing that great either.
He's been the consummate teammate from the get go, but he has a lot of miles on him, they really overworked him for many years.
Give him less minutes and watch him shine in the playoffs.
Not trying to shit on the Guy but come on You canāt shoot n when he does he hits a skate a shine guard or upper body. 9/10 if It does go through itās a miss . Anyhow even as a defence He looks lethargic. No excuses wither itās a injury wither heās a new dad wither Berube system wither u donāt have a good dance partner. These are all excuses n your paid big money for what ? For a big Nothing. One word āTRADEā
