BREAKING: Carolina Hurricanes trade for Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall

A Canes BLOCKBUSTER NHL trade as Carolina swings for the Finnces (sorry). The Carolina Hurricanes traded for Colorado Avalanche forward Mikko Rantanen and Chicago Blackhawks forward Taylor Hall. The Hurricanes traded forwards Martin Necas and Jack Drury to Colorado along with a 2nd-round pick in 2025, and 4th-round pick in 2026. Carolina also sent a 2025 3rd-round pick to Chicago. Chicago is also retaining half of Rantanen’s salary.

  1. I really hope we a have contingency plan in place because if this becomes a Jake Guentzel situation we might be screwed next season

  2. Rantenan is good if you also have MacKinnen and Makar. Necas is good despite playing with Kotkeniemi and Robinson. Necas takes a 4th line caliber of linemates and makes the 1st line point producers. Rantenan is with two of the best players who have ever lived.

Anybody can be on the ice with MacKinnen and Makar and have 100 points because those two are going to put in 100 goals together.

Rantenan is a good player, but he's not as good as Necas nor does he have the same upside as Necas if Necas has the right player to play with.

Kotkeniemi was always the one to trade for a better center, like JT Miller who the Canucks are desperate to remove from their roster

  3. I hate to lose Necas, but I know the Canes just got objectively better.

I guess that's the sign of a good trade – when you don't have to like it, but you can't argue that your team is now better for it.

  4. 1L: Aho, Jarvis, Blake, 2L: Kotkaniemi, Svechnikov, Rantanen, 3L: Staal, Martinook, Hall, 4L: Jost, Robinson, Roslovic, ….. That 4L will score!!!! When Carrier comes back move him to 4L Roslovic to 4L Center and Jost to Healthy Scratch.

  5. There's another reason why the 'Canes made this deal well before the draft deadline. Often times, when you make a trade there is a period of adjustment for the player and team as they get used to their styles of play. Basically, chemistry issues. I expect Carolina will struggle for a few games while the team and Rantanen gel together. You need time for that to happen. Better for the adjustment period to happen now rather than 6 weeks from now when the playoff drive begins. Also, we need to learn a lesson from the Jake Guentzel situation. He didn't want to play for Carolina after last season. That stung. We want to let Rantanen know that Carolina is a great team with a great coach. If we can re-sign Rantanen in the offseason, this will be a MONUMENTAL win for Carolina.

  6. they already offer that 12 million in avs to mikko. he want´s that 14 million. what happen later when cale makar want´s that same? cannot pay coz mckinnon get only 12,5 million. then makar also leave 🙂 canes get best finish player in the team. i think moose is better than barkov.

  7. Interesting to see how Mikko will adapt to the Canes style of play. No arguing the avs and canes are very different styles.

  8. It was said Rantanen and Av's were too far away from eachother. You would expect Av's to offer 11M and Rantanen to ask 13M. If this is the case, which is would have to be for the offers to be "too far away from eachother", Rantanen will likely ask 14M+ in the open markets.

  9. Looks like Canes is really going for it this year. As a Finnish Avs fan if it’s Carolina and Colorado in cup finals, I might shart my pants.
