So call me stupid but why would CHI trade Hall and retain 50% of Rantanen's cap for only a 3rd round pick?
I absolutely expected Mikko and the Avs to settle to 12.5 aav for 8 years.
When does Necas play for the Avs?
Rod the Bod got a couple really good players to boost up the squad. I am fairly certain Both of them will fit in well and make a difference. I am a huge fan of Taylor Hall. I like to see him on a team where he has the potential to shine.
Weird trade for the Avs. I know it's about money but … why fix what isnt broken? This is a major contender and possible Cup favorite, with a successful track record. If you can win another Cup who cares about next year? I'm also not a fan of Necas. Overrated.
As for Carolina they definitely improve but I anticipate Rantanen's numbers won't be quite the same without McKinnon. Carolina is a score-by-committee team. And now they're the ones who have to fork over that money.
Carolina still hasn’t addressed their goaltending.

For this type of trade to be happening with this quality of players, there must be some incredible draft picks in line and ready to be signed. This has got to be a five-year move.
So to add Taylor Hall and Rantanen even at 50% salary that is over 10 million in salary….I didn't even know that Carolina had that amount in cap?? Also I almost see that Chicago being the middle man here got rid of 6 million to take back on 4.5 millionish…..so only really about 1.5 million is freed up and to only get a 3rd rounder back….almost feels like they got the short end of the straw

As a Canes fan I’m obviously pretty thrilled. Slightly worried about having to re-sign, but hey, we like Finn’s!
Otherwise I think this will be good for Necas. Love the guy and player and he has had a great season so far, but historically has not seemed to fit well in the Canes system offensively (does anyone? lol) despite having all the skill and speed in the world. I think he will have a chance to thrive in Colorado and I’m happy for him

Yeah, Mikko's stats are good, but look who he is playing along side with. If you actually pay attention, he is inconsistent in his effort, especially on the defensive end. Bednar has stated that he wants 100% consistently from everyone. Mikko hasn't lived up to that this year, so this trade doesn't surprise me, and I think it will help the Avs get out of their current slump.

Aves could/should not pay Rantanen more than Mckinnon, had to be done. Helps the cap if Landy comes back or one more trade to fill hole on defense.

I never in million years would have thought Rantanen would go anywhere. Carolina is the optimal choice for the calibre ngl…and Taylor Hall I want to see that lad with a Cup, this trade may just be crazy enough to surprise us all.
If I am Mikkos Agent, my asking price just went from 14m to 15-16m. There is 0 change Carolina lets Mikko walk after losing Necas and drury plus a 2nd,3rd and 4th round picks.

It’s unfortunate we had to trade Mikko but with Makar coming up for a contract also have Nate, Mikko and Makar all above 12 mil a year is a lot. Makar is the better player to keep with our system moving forward.
