  1. I understand not suspending him. However, between the referee’s explanation that Johansson hit himself with his own stick which I’ve still seen no one else but MacKinnon accomplish, then Parros determining that not even a fine is warranted feels like the NHL trying to sweep this under the rug. As a Wild fan, to lose three players on dirty plays in the last two weeks and only seen one offender receive supplemental discipline is really frustrating. The name on the back shouldn’t matter as to whether an infraction is assessed, only the severity of the penalty incurred.

  2. Maybe a missed penalty. He barely moved his arm at all. Looks more like maybe bracing for contact that never came than intent to take someone's head off.

  3. He barely even moved his arm, you could argue that is just regular motion, there is almost no attempt to make contact at all. He’s also not defenseless, Johansson put himself in a vulnerable position and has to be more aware of his surroundings. That is barely a 2-minute minor, would be up to refs discretion, which they obviously felt there wasn’t enough to penalize him

  4. As mentioned it's a missed 2min penalty. There were many slew foots that were missed on Minnesota side as well. If you think this "Elbowing penalty" deserves more, please show me an example of an elbowing penalty that doesn't deserve more. This is as a non egregious as an elbow can be. Mcdavid did not change his skating direction, he had no intent, reactionary with very little arm movement, player hunched over, barely touched him. the only reason he got hurt is that he is prone to concussions from past incidents. Is that McDavids fault or the fault of the first guy that got him good? I understand that we don't want any hits to the head but then you got to change the rules and have no exceptions. That still wouldn't have changed this play though, as it was reactionary and not intentional so then are you really accomplishing anything by suspending?

  5. Jeff you are being disingenious with this , using a rule in a rule book to determine a 2 min , mcdavid intentionally elbowed a player to the chin for no other reason than to stop him , the incident needs to be looked at entirely , not all elbows are the same as are not all plays , your barely touched him is also bang out of line, theres not a barely or forcefully , there is a dont fucking elbow a player in the chin

  6. Way I see it is that this is Mcdavid. Everyone in the league generally wants to get a shot on Mcdavid in some way. I think Mcdavid was bracing for some kind of contact from Johansson, then when said contact didn’t happen, it ended up being Mcdavid that popped him in the chin. Like they said, shoulda been 2 mins.

  7. He clearly just flinched, anticipating contact coming into him. The narrative that this "proves how dirty he is" that i see in some comments sections is beyond absurd.

  8. There is also "intent to injure". Seeing a vulnerable person. The same as an eye poke, a spear, a knee to the nuts. It's his head! Elbow smash to the nose. This is a moving elbow smash. I can use "smash" if you can use "bump".

  9. There is no difference between the two elbows to the head and yet with one of them you agree with as being a suspension. That’s hypocritical.

  10. Given how much is let go with infractions against McDavid, him giving the chicken wing and getting away with it is Karma

  11. So how come Domi got fined for an elbow on Hathaway? Literally a week or so ago? That elbow was intentional and from behind but on the helmet and caused no injury. This elbow is also intentional (you gotta control your body) and was to the chin and caused a concussion. Jeff marek has never sounded so stupid

  12. So what marek is saying you can reflex chicken wing guys as we glide by? Ok….yeah I don’t want guys doung that to my teams stars at all. My question is this. If this play was Ryan reaves on mcdavid. Same play just replace mcdavid with reaves and johansson with mcdavid. Reaves is getting fined minimum

  13. Just think it would have been the other way around that Johansson takes out McDavid one game before the playoffs and Connor is out for 5 games and their season is over…

  14. Nice dive wimpy Swede. Friggin guy went down like he was shot!! Is this soccer or hockey! Hate to see if he actually got hit with an elbow!

  15. OMG what elbow??? What that dive he took ,give me a fn break!! Penalty okay 2 mins but your even complaining that the ref didn't call it ,because even the refs who were there knew that was a academy award winning dive!! Really dudes flung his head the opposite way his head should of went if he really got hit .go watch it again!!

  16. Agree with what was said here. People forget the speeds at which this happens. Yes, these guys are elite athletes but that is reflexes and muscle memory from thousands of hours of practice. It is not pre-frontal cortex processing (purposeful) that would indicate intent. If it was, the elbow would have been out much earlier, not a last second little flit. It was a missed minor penalty, which happens a lot. Unfortunately, it caused injury which is a constant risk in hockey. Players (and most commenters here) would hate it, but full face shields would significantly reduce injuries in cases like this. Roast me all you want for that last suggestion, but facts are facts.

  17. Read rule 45.3…. it's clear that if a player is injured as a result of an elbow to the head, a major does apply. I could past word for word. I guess the host here is all about pretending to know rules and how they should be applied…. maybe he's an nhl consultant because clearly the nhl agrees…. as they ignore their rule book.

  18. Guy with the glasses doesn't know hockey rules and he's playing it off like he's an expert. Elbowing can be a minor or major penalty at the discretion of the referee. Usually when an injury happens it's a major penalty.

  19. Crazy that no one is saying anything about embellishment 😂 it literally doesn’t even look like McDavid moves and then Johanssen throws his head like he just got punched in the face by a professional boxer.

  20. I can't believe what I'm listening to here. If roles were reversed, you'd be screaming that the league needs to protect its stars. Do better, Jeff!!!
