Did Laine’s Comments Turn Around the Blue Jackets’ Season?

Ever since Laine said this team was okay with losing, they have gone 10-3-1.

  1. Right now I expect the Rangers and Senators to grab the two wildcards, with Columbus and Montreal hanging around. I expect Boston, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia to fall back a bit. Laine's comments have me hoping that Columbus finishes ahead of Montreal this season.

  2. Coincidence. I think the effect of that type of comment is limited. I think Colombus is just a better team that they shown prior to that game. Laine should have refrained himself.

  3. If Laine’s comments saved their season then it’s certainly more than he did for them while playing for jackets

  4. Laine carrying 2 teams to the playoffs is kinda insane but here we are. one with scoring and the other with motivation. we can blame Laine, he did insert his foot in his mouth.

  5. Laine has changed the way the Habs perform since he joined the team. I hope his contact gets extended

  6. I think CBJ will fall short this year. They haven’t played super challenging opponents yet (minus CAR, MTL, TOR), and I just feel like they’re due to get run over by a good team. I can hope, as a CBJ fan, but I am not expecting it

  7. Hockey Dude, recommendation for you: if the jackets make the playoffs I recommend you respectfully introduce the possibility of Devine intervention. This might be the will and influence of the spirit of Johnny Hockey! It's a good narrative….all of a sudden they're playing this well, could be because of Johnny!

  8. During the time Laine was there the coaches and leadership culture were horrible. First and only thing Torts said to Laine was "dont duck up" when he joined the team. No hello or nothing.

  9. I think like the Predators Vegas trip last year and the "Gloria" for the Blues in the Cup run the passing of Johnny Hockey and Laine's comments will help contribute to the mythology if the Jackets reach the playoffs (especially if they go on a deep run). It helps inspire belief that something special is happening and you'll take that over the alternative lol

  10. Thanks for the video! Good info, details, and insights! Ted Laine-so put up a Believe sign?

  11. i bet laine was a cancer in the blue jackets locker room and he likes it better in montreal, so when he left colombus got better but so did montreal

  12. I know this is about Columbus and I hope they make the playoffs but I honestly couldn’t choose between Montreal and Ottawa on who I want in the playoffs. If we could get Montreal, Ottawa, and Columbus in that would be fantastic.

  13. We gotta remember that Laine has always been outspoken and expresses his feelings quite bluntly. I didn’t really like the way he phrased what he said but he’s bashed some heads going back to u18 Ivan Hlinka when he clashed with the coach for not playing him in the final minutes of the game and was kicked off the team.

Man’s always had a bit of an ego but he has also matured with age.

  14. Give credit where its due, but Dean Evason has been able to getting the Blue Jackets into playing better than the previous seasons. Laine's comments were just a motivating factor in Columbus performing better with Evason's guidance.

  15. Not a fan of Laine's but he was probably right about Columbus in the past. Maybe they've finally grown up. They remind me of what Hartford was in the 80's. They had some good teams and occasionally made the playoffs but never were a top team. But Hartford was all that in a 21 team league. It's much tougher nowadays if you just continually drift from mediocre to pretty good and never go beyond that.

  16. These boys are making MILLIONS of dollars per year. So ur saying they’re cruising along, not too worried about winning games. THEN Laine makes a comment and the Jackets…what…decide HEY thats BS lets start trying harder? Yeah. Ok.

  17. Laine’s comment definitely hurt Colombus because of gaudreau’s death. You know the jackets were gonna try hard to win for him and the comment probably hurt their feelings because of that. You go see some replays and Monahan is actively targeting laine even though monahan was a hab last season. The comment was true for the past seasons front office, but the comment is untrue for this season and that’s why they got so angry and “motivated”

  18. The Blue Jackets making the playoffs this year after the devastating loss of Johnny Gaudreau would be such an amazing story

  19. So Imo its 2 fold. its 50 percent Laine saying they accept losing and the other 50 percent is a little help from the other side ie Johnny hockey. Now if only someone would say they accept losing in Buffalo….."Eichel? Can u get on that?"

  20. Probably the Laine comments were a motivating factor in what Columbus has done but let's not forget how the boys lost Johnny before the season ever started and once they found their skating legs, they made good things happen in his memory. Another factor that I think is not recognized enough is having Dean Evason as coach. He is not a coach who will be satisfied with slackers and he showed that in his previous tenure as Minnesota Wild coach. The Wild were usually in the playoffs when he was coach and so he will likely have been a motivating factor for the success they're enjoying this year.

I hope they make it into the playoffs. They're my Eastern team (underdog) that I've rooted for (except when they play my Jets) so I wish them a berth in the playoffs this season.

  21. Marchy madness, Marchenk-goal, Marchenk-show, The translator, it’s funny we’re looking for nicknames for Marchy but he’s the one who gives out honorary russian nicknames to his linemates, Mo might’ve finally earned his Andrei with the hatty against Toronto
