🔥 3 MAIN POINTS OF THE POST – what to look at:
🔥 POINT 1:
Look how he is pulling his knees together as soon as possible even when he slides.
Opposite is just reaching and scrambling what you see in juniors a lot.
Why bring the knees together? It helps you to close holes especially in screen situation but even more importantly you will be faster to move for the next situation.
🔥 POINT 2:
Look how he makes himself big. Pay attention to hands and posture.
🔥 POINT 3:
To stop the puck you must see it. He is doing constant adjustment to the situation. There is a rule of thumb that look from short side but often many of those text book things are thrown away in real situations.
🔥 EXTRA TIP:
How good are you at reacting to the situations? No matter what country we are talking about based on my experience there is a trend that goalies are over ”goalie practiced”. What does it actually mean? By that I mean a goalie might look really good at doing goalie practice drills but when he doesn’t know where the shot goes to or the situation is not excatly as at practices pucks go in. How to avoid this? Mix easy goalie drills with reaction drills that force problem solving and choose save selection based on the task, not what could be good in theory. If shots go in, usually you gotta do something differently.
Even rocket science is not that complicated if you know what you are doing. Having good coaches around you and by educating yourself you will maximize your chances.
