  1. STEVE! Wes shoulder checked Marchand to the ice in a Canucks game, look it up, it is my comedy playlist. I was there, the whole crowd cheered, and I do love Wes ever since then. He didn't even apologize haha

  2. 3 games for McDavid is just about right. 3 games for Myers is kinda light. McDavid is a repeat offender and got away with an intentional elbow to the face just 2 games earlier. Oilers fans csme out of the wood work to claim 2 games for Matthews was fair for a retaliation crosscheck to the head. Matthews was crosschecked 3 times, McDavid was held for 15 seconds after getting away with holding Garland the previous 15 seconds. That's a much higher escalation of violence. Myers should have got 5 games because his crosscheck was completely unprovoked and much more violent. Statute of limitations mean he's not a repeat offender, but he is serving his 3rd 3 gamer of his career. And now I'd like to welcome oilers fans to the Wes McAulay Haters Club, and suggest you guys delete all your comments from your Leafs fan friends' posts about him over the past 6 years, because they are not going to age well. He's legit one of, if not The worst ref in the NHL. He tries to hard to be part of the show and really likes to see his name in articles and his face in highlights. Probably intentionally let's games get out of hand so he can make his "5 minutes for *lil shadow boxing" FIGHTING!" or his new fav "And everyone else on the ice gets a penalty".

  3. I am the biggest Oiler homer in the world and I absolutey love watching this podcast every day. Thank you for loving hockey like the rest of us

  4. Always enjoy the Neanderthal component found in Hockey. Hope this Neanderthal element not found in other major sports is always available in Hockey. Anger management is a skill. Most players have it. Others not so much.

  5. Barring rule changes nothing avoids mcadvid being the hothead he is.

If Wes did his job he gives a penalty to mcdavid first as he picks garland and lands on him taking him out of the play, he doesn’t want to call that because that ends the game. So he lets that go , then garland starts holding his arm , then goes and grabs him again he doesn’t want to call that because he just let mcdavid get away with a penalty.

But say he does call a penalty all that happens is the play continues and mcdavid still breaks free and cross checks him in the head. Regardless of any rules you change Mcdavid has no control over his emotion at that point and is doing that.

He has done the same thing many times I’ve seen and I don’t watch many of their games.

  6. I agree the holding call was missed, however stating another cross check to the face was NOT called for suggest that this one was??? Nothing calls for a cross check to the face full stop

  7. I like the ideas for penalties at the end of the game. However, the refs still need to decide to make the call. And if the ref doesn't like that rule, I bet they won't call anything.

  8. A time extension rule of course should only apply if a team is winning and they commit the infraction. Otherwise getting a two minute penalty would be to your advantage as it at least gives you a chance of winning.

  9. 1st time checking you out , I’m impressed & think you are 100% correct on everything you mentioned & great info & prospective !!! 👍👏👌🥃 (“IN THE FACE”) 😆

  10. If you are a coach now and not using this strategy in the last 30 minutes then you are negligent. Empty net and Matthews trying to get the equalizer? Just go out and grab his stick and don't let go. Hold him, grab him, don't let him into the play at all. What's the worst that can happen? A 15 second power play where you might not even win the face off. And if you lose the face off, just go out and tackle whoever gets the puck. Time eventually runs out. A time based penalty system at the end of the game is meaningless as it has no deterrent factor at all. I like the penalty shot as the team gets at least one chance to make you pay for the foul.
For those that worry about the refs putting their whistle away even more, I don't believe that will happen. Worst case for the referee if the guy scores on the penalty shot is that it's a tie game and the game goes on.

  11. what if the puck is rolling and the d man clears it over the glass with less than 15 seconds. is that penalty shot worthy?

  12. Honestly though McDavid gets away with these kinds of things all the time and they never get called so its finally come due where he finally gets called for it. In the playoffs against the Canucks he should have gotten a double minor for high sticking Quinn Hughes that drew blood he got no call against that.

  13. The McDavid cross check was retaliation and right or wrong the NHL punishes retaliation infractions more severe than preditory infractions

  14. I heard on an Oilers podcast that they thought that because it was McDavid rather than a fourth liner such as Cory Perry. It shouldn't matter. It should come down to the infraction rather than who was involved

  15. It was a SMART play by Garland. Low risk because Vancouver had the lead. Had the score been tied I bet he wouldn't have held him so long.

  16. Oilers had possession of the puck the entire time. Even if a penalty is called, it wouldn't effect the outcome of McDavid cross-checking Garland in the face. It's simply good PR for them that the refs didn't call anything. For anyone thinking that they would lose possession knowing the arm was up, there was 15 seconds left. They're not going to play for a faceoff in the zone with the chance the other team wins it, gets time off the clock because they can't set up their offense.
