  1. The only common denominator is Mike Sullivan. 10s of different players in and out. 3 GM’s. 2 ownerships. Take that for what its worth.

  2. Jarry had questions around his performance in the second half of the season and playoffs, but overall was largely fine at the time the contract was handed out. And he was historically pretty lights out Oct-December. He made the NHL All Star game TWICE. I never wanted Dubas to extend Jarry, but the notion that it was this massive mistake at the time is overblown and is based on Jarry's exceptionally bad play SINCE he extended. I don't think anyone was super thrilled with the extension being 5 years, but Jarry had a ton of leverage at the time — he was the best goalie on the free agent market at the time, and none of the other options were particularly desirable. The Karlsson trade saved cap space, and he underperformed a bit after he got here. The x-factor with the Karlsson trade is the fact that Letang's starting to show his age at times, and has had his share of health issues. Of course you need to be prepared for those decisions to backfire, but based on the data available at the time, both were fine decisions. Graves ……. not going to defend that one. And letting Jason Zucker walk to trade for Reilly Smith was also pretty clearly a mistake — Zucker was injured for a lot of his years with the Penguins, but was fantastic in his final season here, and I think Dubas and co were worried he had earned himself too much a raise, so they let him go. Smith was fantastic for a couple weeks and then played like a wet noodle the rest of his time in PGH.

  3. Kyle likes throwing out huge contracts. He pulls out his silver pen and paralyzes the team. That's how he rolls. The Jets owned the Pens in the McGoarty trade. Dude can't skate.
"Negative eight is less then zero" … man I love this channel. 😜

  4. Dubas is one of the most overrated GM in the League but he doesn't deserve to blamed for "ruining" the Penguins. Can't ruin something that was already flawed.

  5. Pens are complete trash. Worst GAA in the entire league with the third worst goal differential in the league as well. An aging core that has Crosby and Malkin with a combined 20 goals and a collective -37. No good young talent in the pipeline means this team is going nowhere again this season and next season as well.

Stick a fork in them. This team is cooked.

  6. Not a Dubas fan and I just don't see what others must see in him… but blaming him for the Peguins core players starting to age is a bit of nonsense.

  7. In his first press conference when he was hired, he said they were taking 2-pronged approach, they would try to compete and make one last push with Crosby and Malkin being near the end, but that they would re-build after giving it a try. Everything is going to plan. I would agree the Jarry signing was not great, but it happens. They don't need the cap space anyways.

  8. Posts like this is why Toronto hockey media is laughed at by other fan bases. The Pens downfall started YEARS before Dubas was GM, when Hextall was in charge. You could argue it even is a result from when Jim Rutherford was still there and dealing top draft picks for win now talent. Hextall traded for oldies, and gave them (plus Geno and Letang) contracts that were unnecessarily long and have no movement clauses. He inherited a dumpster fire, and has partially put the flame out. It’s still a dumpster, but an improvement. The Karlsson trade was far from ideal, but he surprisingly increased their cap space while shipping off players who did not work with the team whatsoever. He’s gotten effective younger forwards like Philip Tomasino at a cheap price, and they’re producing. And he likely wouldn't get much more in return for Guentzel that would help them now as well as in the future.
They're a rebuilding team, and they have been for years now. They’re in the early stages of what the Blackhawks and Red Wings have gone through.

  9. Rather play Blomqvist rest of season and call up the next guy if there's an injury vs first shot Jarry

  10. Jarry was a mistake, Graves was good before going going to pit, Granlund sucked how many picks do pens have now?
Worry about To who fails every spring lol

  11. The guys can say this, but when I as a Flames fan told Toronto fans that Brad Treliving has tied you guys down to a team that is going to degrade substantially every year from this point on for at least the next 4 years due to his signings they tell me I don't know what I'm talking about

  12. What a brain dead take. I'm not a fan of Dubas, but to say he's responsible for the Pens struggles is just straight up dumb. He inherited a core that's in the twilight of their careers, he had next to no promising prospects and has ownership breathing down his neck about trading any of those aging core players for valuable assets in fear of fan backlash. Videos like this is why everyone thinks Leaf fans are dumb af.

  13. They gave up nothing to get Chychrun? Name the RHD on the leafs that are better than Nick Jensen? Do some research, the trade was a win, win for both clubs.

  14. Arguably Chris Patrick (current Caps GM) took over an excellent situation, but he also helped create it since he was previously AGM to GM Brian MacLellan

  15. Nick Jensen might not seem like nothing for Chychrun. Probably labeled as nothing given that Chychrun maybe could've fetched more of a return. But as a Sens fan, Jensen has done his job and he is making the Sens better. Also, I hope Pens fans enjoyed every single playoff win against Ottawa. Not sure when that next one arrives.

  16. As a Pens fan yes, Dubas is a clown who has ruined the Penguins and it will continue to get much worse yet, I could write an essay in this comment section about what a fraud he is and the ridiculous moves he's made but I'll refrain

  17. I like nedlivich or whatever. I like having a goalie who can stick handle behind the net. Haven't had that since Barrasso! Fleury gave up soooo many goals trying to do it!

Besides, the goalie is not the whole problem in pittsburgh! Old age is part of the problem. Lack of defense due to old age is another part. I love Letang but he's the only old man I could bear to lose. Crosby MUST retire as a penguin and join Mario in the owners box! I'd like to see Letang retire as a penguin and get in on a coaching position. But it must be now. And getting rid of all the young talent. Getzel Marino, Aston Reese, bonino all them guys.

  18. I agree I don’t think Dubas is totally responsible. While some will blame Hextall, I think the players are responsible for some of this, they pushed management to keep them all together for a final cup run. They should have moved some of those guys (Malkin and Letang to name two), and should have never signed Karlsson. I believe in the sports axiom, better a year too early than a year too late. Unfortunately they are more than a year too late. I always looked at Washington who started moving out some of the older players a bit earlier than the Penguins and the results speak for themselves.

  19. Caps have $16M on LTIR sure helps inject some younger players to chop two old bodies from the WSH lineup. They made some bold moves but only possible due to having that cap freed up.

  20. JR f'd the Penguins. Not trading all the picks, that was fine as it resulted in cups. Deciding to stay on after his retirement cintract resukting in all of the assistant gms leaving (bottorikl, fitzpatrick, guerrin, alvin, even karmanos). Then he quit before his new contract expired right before a season leaving the Penguins to hire Hextal who was BRUTAL. Part of the issue is all of these guys have kept Sullivan who players may or may not fit with. Don't look at Granlund jow, look at Granlund with the Pens. Look at Petry with the Pens (or now for that matter) look at Jan Ruuta… heck look at loosing Tanev and McCann for keeping the ghost of Jeff Carter. He took over with no starting goalie and a coach reminding him Jarry was a 2 time all star. They had no top pair left D… he signed a guy that was in his 20s who was top pair in NJ and COL… he traded all of his bad contracts and 1 pick for a guy that just won a norris and your saying it was a bad idea?
