Is It Time For A Change In Boston?
The Boston Bruins are at a crossroads this season and soon will have to decide what to do.
Are the Boston Bruins buyers or sellers this year, and do Don Sweeney and Cam Neely have a future with this franchise?
Cam spoke to the media, and I shared my thoughts on what he said.

What would you do if you where in charge of the Boston Bruins?
Understand your comment on being patient with prospects. One alternative view, Bs management have little confidence in Potrais, Lysell or Georgei as prospects, how else to explain none were brought up during a 6 game losing streak for a team that can't score?
On Sweeney, it's so funny to hear fans blame him for the drafts. Yes, he's the last voice and ultimately responsible, but he's just relying on staff recommendations, not scouting kids.
Someone with common sense purchase the Bruins and then can Neely and Sweeney! That would be a great start. Neely was a great hockey player. Not so great President. Sweeney was a good hockey player. Terrible GM. Trade all the dead wood like Coyle, Zacha, Coyle, and Marchy while they still have some trade value. McAvoy has been mediocre the last 2 years so consider moving him unless he starts earning his big fat contract. Put the C on Pasta. He's the spark on this team. Blow it up and start over! Montgomery was NOT the problem.
do u guys remember how long Jeremy Jacobs left Sinden in the gm seat? i was really young but i remember ppl hated Harry. This now, this is nothing & i agree a change would be good but Bs management isn't doing it. This entire roster is underperforming. it's crazy really.
i like it but the only person less likely than Sweeny to be fired is Neely. Maybe i can see a reorganization? maybe.. great idea tho
Yeah, I saw that bromance press conference.
Made my head turn sideways.
🙃
They trade Brad Marchand? they will get tarred and feathered.
That would tell me stupidity is ruling the franchise. That might be the best way to piss off Pasta!
Jake wasn't happy, he wasn't going to produce in Boston..
Losing Heinan hurt.
I don't believe Sweeney's done a bad job either.
Nor do I believe he's actually "in charge" … I firmly believe they do "make decisions by committee"
Nobody knows which duck to take out at the carnival because they're just rotating ducks!
I could write paragraphs about this press conference, but I'm just going to chuckle and enjoy your video!
Thanks Court.
👍
fully understand the frustration and call for change, I wonder if we would be having this conversations if the PK/PP were operating normally has they have done for the last few years in the top 10 in the league , there position in the standings would be different, fixed the special teams would go along way to sorting out what they have
I love Cam. But I can’t argue with anything you said.
Cam and Don arent going anywhere. I want to say that if it fails, it's on the owner.
It must be hard. I mean. One call from Bergy and top talent guys like taylor hall come in pumped to be a Bruin.
Imagine that call being from Marchy. I dont see the respect level there. I am a Marchand fan. He just isn't the same calabor of a capton as #37 or #33.
You are spot on, Fire Neely and let his replacement decide on Sweeney or not. The team was built to play a defensive game and all Sweeney did was add more and more bottom 6 forwards, so now the defense isn’t that good and no one can score. Fire Neely and Sweeney and get a fresh start. I know people don’t believe in our prospects, but there is 2-3 that could and will play in the NHL. Start now see what you have, fire Neely, finish the season, then make your decision. No trades, unless it’s for draft picks. It’s rebuild time.
He had a good run.Its time for the changing of the guard 🇨🇦🐈⬛🏒🍺👻.
Have we made it to the playoffs? Yes. Are we made for winning the playoffs? No. Is management making moves? Yes. but, these moves are NOT bringing the B's into the modern era of hockey. We keep buying or bringing in players who are bigger. We do not end up matching the skills and speed of the rest of the league.
Frankly, I think we're aiming for a "retool" and it is needed. Everyone is on the block. I will listen for deals about EVERYONE. Neely is my first move. As for Thornton? I love him. As a player, as a presence in the city, and as a person. I'd want to hear this thoughts on the TYPE of team. Is he going to bring in a bunch of Shawn Thornton's? I hope not.
Here are my players I would build around: Swayman, McAvoy, Pasta, Poitras, and here are my Most likely keep: Kastelic, Brazeau, Merkulov, and even Coyle. Coyle's a presence in the room. I'd need a really good return (probably more than teams would want to give up) for any of these guys.
A vote of confidence usually is the "kiss of death" for coaches. Maybe not for anyone higher than that. I can't see dumping either of these guys until the season is done. When the results of their work are in then thats the time to move on or not.
It's well past time for a change (of upper management) in Boston.
the Bruins system is or seems to be based on local talent, thier recruitment scouting teams are mostly long term Bruins alumni.. this needs to stop.
Hockey East is one of the best college progrms in the country, but it is still a college level. Local players should get looked at as a convenience but not as the only solution.
Player development unde Bruce Cassidy when he was with the baby Bs was leaps and bounds better, and maybe this has something to do with the local relationships or being able to manage the younger talent (smaller egos). Ithink a more diverse talent pool than neighborhood kids. IMHO
Above all else, as a fan base we'd love another cup win. There have been examples of teams before, who, around this time in the season, were in a similar position, or worse, and went on to win the cup. I always believe things should change at the top first, especially given the amount of evidence we have that the needle doesn't really move and when we go all in, the amount of times it hasn't worked outweigh the amount of times it has. We have made a few deep runs. But you have to really win it all if you go all in as much as we do.
I think Cam is dreaming if he thinks we will go deep in the playoffs
They built this team on a faulty premise .. that big and slow is the winning formula, and they're terribly wrong. For that, Sweeney et al deserve all the opprobrium.
the change they need is to start selling the farm, and rebuild from the ground up. there isnt but a few i would keep long term.
Well, there you have it. All those who dreamed Sweeney and Neely would somehow get the shove can settle in for a retool/rebuild under the watchful gaze of the duo that brought you what should've been a potentially foundational THREE first rounders in 2015. Let that sink in. Despite the pleas, I doubt anyone really believed they'd be removed, did they? As soon as Smithers Jacobs spoke of how many years the club made the playoffs under Sweeney, my translation was "CHA-CHING!!" That's all that matters regardless of what he and Neely say about hearing the fans and sharing in fans' frustrations. Those are soundbites like the ones delivered by MLSE (I live in the GTA.) at the end of another unsuccessful playoff go meant to ingratiate themselves with paying customers. For a club that's won so many regular season games during their tenure, shouldn't there be another Bruins championship(s) along the way? They've had a decade to translate regular season success to playoffs success, the goal they claim is of the utmost importance and haven't done so. In Jamaica, we had an old-time saying that goes "Finger never say 'suh.' (Points blame to oneself.) Finger say 'suh.' (Points blame away from oneself.) That's Sweeney and Neely.
The Only way Neely & Sweeney get canned is if they miss the playoffs, 🎉 The Jacobs LOVE their playoff money ! Then RUN don't Walk to grab Shawn Thornton as President!!! 😂
I think 🤔 it's time for new blood, goodbye Cam, hello Thornton 👋
I think you should contact Boston Bruins management and apply for Don Sweeny job.
Or at least be an advisor. Your seem to see the writing on the wall 🧱 why can't Bruins management see it! Another get video 🏒🥅🇨🇦
If the b’s trade Marchy, I’m gonna check out of being a fan for a bit.
If I owned the B's. Don would be gone on day one. Cam would be moved into an alumni position. A dedicated rebuild would begin, and I would trade our "older" key pieces for picks.
Oh, and we would wear gold socks again.
This team lacks a clear plan and direction. Fire Sweeney and Neely, the entire scouting staff and every coach except for goalie Bob. These idiots will probably trade poitras, a first and more for a 32 yr old loser having a bad season aka Miller or Kreider. This team needs to get off the NE ncaa train and start getting nhl not ahl players.
Thornton sounds like an interesting option… I still go back to crawling to Julien to coach for a couple of years. He was always able to make a make out of scrubs by focusing on defense. Maybe with Thornton in house could talk with him. I wish I knew more coaches that play a defensive style to get a lot out of lower tier players.
the Jacobs wont do anything unless they miss the playoffs multiple years in a row. they value $$$ above all else and the playoff revenue is massive for them. for example as a STH, FV for a regular season game is 100 for example, first round would be 160, second round is 240 and up and up it goes. the jacobs are happy as long as they are making money.
While I love and respect both Sweeny and Neely as players, they now have to bear the brunt of the blame for the downtrodden state the team is in now. I think they threw everything they had onto the table in that incredible record-breaking season they had, but with Bergeron's retirement, Krejci gone, and the dynamic duo of Ullmark and Swayman no more, the team is broken and in disarray with no leadership and a roster full of lackluster players. I wouldn't be terribly opposed to a complete gutting and rebuilding for the future. And that included the brass.
Love Cam the player. A BEAST. A WRECKING MACHINE. As a president not so much. Handing out large contracts WITH no trade or movement clauses is coming back to bite them in the rear. I hate the no trade clause period but tie it to a hard cap handcuffs the team.
Hypothetical scenario: New President and GM…. Besides the mentioning of Thorty, who are other candidates? Just saying firing someone or people without a clear succession plan…..Who?🐻
Sweeney should not be fired unless there is more actual cause. He has been given the reins to be GM of Team Canada for 4 Nations and to be the asst. GM for the freaking Olympics for a reason. There was a perfect storm of bad stuff that happened leading into this season: Swayman drama, 3 of our top 6 (Pasta, Marchy, Elias) dealing with injuries/missing camp, Monty waiting to fired so he could go to St. Louis. Add to the pile that the rest of the roster was inexplicably underperforming all at once other than the 4th line, two of whom were new. How was anyone supposed to anticipate that so much of our (ostensibly) healthy roster would have career lows simultaneously to open the season? Most of them had played for us last year!
2015 was 10 years ago, folks need to get over it. It is not Sweeney's fault that the 22-23 team/Monty bungled the Panthers series. It was the right time to go all in if ever there was one. Let's not pretend Bruins fans would actually have the stomach for a true rebuild even if we COULD rebuild. You want to be basement levels of suck for like a decade? No thank you.
I liked what Razor had to say about player development and the draft.
I hope you’re right about the Brazeau Frederick overpay chances. Big, Hard hitting and highly unskilled has worked for us once in 50 years. (2011 cup). And that was mostly because Tim Thomas had one of the greatest performances in NHL history.
Sinden destroyed the Bruins by getting rid of all of the stars in the early 70s to keep payroll down as that was what the owners wanted. He then did it again in the 80s when we had Bourque and he would not invest in enough high end talent to put them over the top to win a cup.
That culture has stuck with the Bruins for decades. Run high end talent out of town as fast as we can.
but Thornton has no experience in hockey operations. i personally think everyone will get a pass except Sacco. they have should have won more cups on Neely's watch. people have disagreed with me, but there was absolutely no reason they lost to St.Louis. who had the second worse record the first half of the season. plus losing three games at home. the hottest coaching name out there is David Caryle. in the last few years, two National Championships at Denver, and recently lead the US to back to back gold medals at the World Juniors. if he decides to go to the NHL, i do not think he would want anything to do with the dumpster fire the Bruins became. plus he worked for Montgomery at Denver. i am sure Montgomery has any positives things to say about the organization, mainly Neely and Sweeney.
Jacobs is smoking something. Sweeny conceded on numerous occasions that the roster is INCOMPLETE!!
You are wrong. Sweeney drafts have left super talented players available for other teams to draft. Lack of talent identification is exemplified by the 3 consecutive first rounders that missed.
We lost the grit. The old Marchi grit. He has matured, and earned his mettle. But who is coming behind him? Where is the grit? Freddi? Pasta needs a guy like Marchi was to Bergi. We came close in 23 but I think Monty shit the bed by not playing Swayman. I don’t think Monty was all bad but he wasn’t a grit coach. Neely and Sweeney both had grit and need to source talent that has same. I see glimpses of good puck battles but we seem to be loosing too many. I also don’t see the D carrying well out of the zone. Mcavoy seems to be on vacation when it comes to carrying it out. I used to enjoy his rushes and deep runs. I can go on about these little things that just manifest in inconsistent play.
Bottom line is they need to scout some “energy with grit” to get them all fired back up. I feel Marchi has earned his badge and shouldn’t t have to carry that load now. He has given us enough and gives us enough. but we need some fresh blood.
Ownership will not move Cam or Don, and they are wise to leave them as the leadership..Anyone want to be Chicago?
In kinda liking Chara lite. Bergy lite is invisible offensively.
Frederic sucks
As a Bruins🐻⚫️🟡 fan from the UK 🇬🇧 and someone who is relatively new to the sport of hockey🏒 I want to thank you for your content as it educates me on the circumstances surrounding the Boston Bruins 🐻⚫️🟡
