If the Devils were to trade Nemec theres 0 chance they do it for half these trades I think Nemec has a lot more value than you think Grav. Trading him for a rental or middle 6 forwards is a terrible idea for NJD a former 2nd overall pick who's still developing fairly well 2 years post draft for those types of players would be wild
Fake news. Quotes are out of context and the Devils will have an opening next year. Kovacevic is going to price himself out. Dougie also might not play out his contract in NJ, he has a limited NTC starting next year. It would take something big for NJ to give up the cost control and potential they have in Nemec when they'll need a few cost controlled players to be cap compliant very soon.

This comment was taken out of context. He was specifically asked about how his scenario compares to Jiricek's and then he gave his response that went much more in depth than what's being quoted.
"It's hard to say; it's still too fresh. If this situation continues, it will be dealt with, but for now, this is how it is.
"I've proven I belong in the NHL, but I try not to dwell on it. I take things as they come. I believe that when the opportunity arises, I'll seize it."
"It's a business, but on the other hand, I can't recall a second-overall pick spending their third year in the minors. Devils are doing well, so I have to wait, even though it's not the most ideal situation."

Send Hamilton out, his defense is pretty sub par and we have offensive guys in our system to fill the gap. Get a good return while you can. Also Nemec wouldn't be traded for a rental, he's the #2 pick that would be such a waste unless an extension is done ahead of time.
What I think is more likely is he's part of a package with Haula or Hamilton to free space up for more impactful players to maximize the return. Then you're talking about solving Van's JT v Petey problem or someone of that caliber.

imo doug gets moved next off season. opens that spot for nemec. doug isnt what he was offensively so they wouldn’t be losing much. nemec is no slouch offensively as well. plus it opens that cap space for lukes contract
The NHL is a simple business the players ONLY care about putting up numbers because that means more money.This hampers the defensive effort becuase offense pays far more than defense .Natter of fact players that play defensively are often tossed aside and struggle just to keep their job.
Even the goalies get paid a lot more in spite of THEIR numbers being attributed to the defensive players so players making goalies look god do not get rewarded but the goalies do lol.
I like Nemec a lot but most every single player in the NHL needs some serious coaching but since that doesn't exist all players will have some holes in their game.
Title is a bit click-bait ish. Simon has not officially asked for a trade request yet. He just expressed displeasure to the team about being in the AHL for a 3rd year. If he’s still stuck down there for the next little bit, THEN he’ll officially ask for a trade request. As a Devils fan, I sure hope he eventually plays with the team full time.

I think you’ve really misevaluated nemecs play and are describing his play as a lot of how it was before the draft and not how he’s developed. He’s actually a really good skater and was one of the devils best defenseman last season which is why he states he earned a spot. Unfortunately he injured himself this offseason in Czechia and took alittle while to regain his play and in the mean time the devils right side was way too good to shakeup.
I dont think Nemec gets traded especially mid season. There is no rush, wait until the off season, see how Kovacevic finishes out the year and re assess then. Unless of course a certified stud top 6 player drops on their laps

The obvious and most likely trade would be Nemec to Vancouver for Hughes and Miller with Vancouver retaining both salaries…….. And then the Devils should do their best to get John Scott…… nuff said……

I feel like San jose could be a good fit for a trade, potentially moving on from mikael grandlund while his value is high, they could use a high potential defender to run their offense in the future, although I’m slightly skeptical that they want to move of from him since he’s been so good and is still decently young
Haula has a full no trade clause.
Ondrej Palat is a outlier on the devils he just doesn’t really fit anywhere so if they were to trade Nemec I would like them to add Palat to the deal and get a top line winger idk if this make sense but maybe Forsburg but that is the end of my yap fest btw 6mil for what palat

This coming offseason, the Devils will trade Simon Nemec along with Jakob Markstrom, Dawson Mercer, Isaac Poulter, and a 2026 4th-rounder to the Maple Leafs for Anthony Stolarz, Easton Cowan, and the Panthers’ 2025 2nd-rounder.
