Reaction to Oilers signing Klingberg

Veteran defenceman John Klingberg is heading to the Oilers, TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reports. Given he hasn’t played in over 14 months, what can Klingberg bring to Edmonton? Where will he fit in on the defensive depth chart? Ryan Rishaug joins Domino’s That’s Hockey to share his thoughts on the signing.

  1. I am relieved that the Leafs did not take a flyer on another broken down player trying to make a comeback from injuries.

  2. Must be a lot of very stupid people running this organization……..we are second in the league, why do we need defenceman?

  3. And Klingberg has visions of Stanley Cup in his eyes…. Hunger for Lord Stanleys mug is a Great motivator, I don't remember what Klingberg was like but this should motivate ,Brown, Stecher and Emberson also…. Oilers just got STRONGER!!!!

  4. This is extremely low risk, you can waive this guy and bury this contract for no cap penalty if he isn't taken on waivers, worst case scenario. My biggest issue here is that the Oilers do not have a roster spot for him if he needs 10+ games to find his game again (which I think he will need, his injury and subsequent surgery were serious). Edmonton is competing for a division title and doesn't have the room for him to play poorly for an extended period of time. Stetcher and Brown as a platoon in that spot has been alright out there, Knoblauch has made it work.

  5. Big mistake, the guys hurt all the time, hasent played in a long time, what the hell you thinking. Were not a rehab team we seem to always pick up old players, hurt players.

  6. Depth is a factor come the run, the teams depth is challenged in the farm system and Brown and Stretcher can be a number 7 so having a seasoned player who can fill the gap. Klingberg is not top a 4 he’s fitting in the bottom pairing as depth, I still believe there’s room for improvement on the D line.

  7. If Klinberg works out, bonus, if he doesn't, AHL with little loss. This is such a low risk signing with potential huge upside. WTF doesn't bring their best when you're playing with 97/29?

  8. This fit makes no sense at all lol. He’s a pp specialist that’s horrible defensively. Oilers have Bouchard for pp and they paid a guy 1.74 cap hit coming of hip surgery that a defensive liability.
