Is it time to take the Canadiens seriously?

The Canadiens are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games and have been one of the top teams in the NHL since the start of December. Now just one point out of a playoff spot, is it time to take the Habs seriously? TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado joins Domino’s That’s Hockey host Gino Reda to share his thoughts.

  1. I don't care that Monty had a huge opening night against the Leafs, he's been so streaky all season that I don't trust him to beat the Leafs twice. I'd rather go with the hot hand against the better team and let Monty play the easier game on Sunday.

  2. It was time to take them seriously at the start of the year. If you did, you wouldn't be caught with your pants down. Unfortunately, you hire braindead people who continually underestimate. Even after Craig Button's comment about "They couldn't beat Toronto 1 game", you continually make the same mistakes.

  3. Having great players and great goalies is only one part of the equation. Setting up player lines and set play styles and during game calls is another part of that equation. That is the coach against coach part of the equation. The horse and the jockey thing, which one do you bet??? Example: look a Scotty Bowman, one of the winningest Coaches, he would be a Jockey bet.

  4. They'll be "seriously" on the golf course come spring & finish high enough in the standings to not get a good draft pick 😂

  5. The biggest difference with the team? HEALTH. And for the first time in 3+ years. Everyone is always dismissive of the Habs, since they have had a relative lack of high end talent (scoring especially) for the better part of 3 decades. Since their run in 2021, they have been decimated by injuries, and even though they clearly embarked in a rebuild, they were not truly as bad as the standings appeared, but historic-level injuries got them there. Certainly frustrating for fans at the time (like me!), but it actually resulted in better draft picks, so that is absolutely the silver lining (Everything happens for a reason!). Now that they are FINALLY healthy and some young guys have some experience under their belts, things are coming together.

They are not as bad as they were at the start of this season (which was missing a big piece in Laine, and experience on D), they are also surely not the world beaters they have been for the past 5-6 weeks either… But I am willing to bet they are much closer to THIS team, than the bottom feeder of the last 3+ years. 😉.

And next year they add Demidov – who appears to be a surefire elite scorer – then later Reinbacher, Hage, Fowler, etc….. buckle up! Exciting years ahead.😎

  6. Really good analysis from Corrado. He said in 3 minutes everything you need to know if don't follow the Habs.. Mayse he could have talked more about the impact of Lane Hutson et Pat Laine on the power play.

  7. 02:25 – Pardon me, Sir, but it is my humble opinion that it should have been stated, this way:

"They made a trade to get away from Justin Barron, who, as it turns out, was clearly overrated and explains why Colorado let him go.

They knew what the deal was and now, so does Nashville."

  8. No argument out of me that Alex is struggling to find the back of the net right now. But you can bet there's none better to put that puck on a tee for Laine to slap home!

  9. I think health, Hutson has taken over #1 dman. Suzuki and caufield have taken another step, both seem poised for over a pt per game year. Kinda crazy. Primeau definitely cost them games earlier. I think Laine gave them belief.

  10. They need to call up Davidson or Roy to replace Pezz. Pezz is not the solution for replacing Heinamen if he can't stay out of the penalty box and ruin the flow of the bottom six playing limited minutes.

  11. Hot take:
If the Habs manage to make the wild card cut, they will go deep in the playoffs.

They have to go on a sustained run for the entire 2nd half of the season so compensate for their dismal start. That means they will be going into the playoffs absolutely hot. Watch out 🙌

  12. The fact that the "experts" are still doubting the Habs just goes to show that they're not the "experts" that they claim to be.😉
