Inconsistent Rangers May Lose Filip Chytil For Foreseeable Future – Ep. 166

On a new episode of ‘Up in the Blue Seats’, Mollie Walker, Larry Brooks and Brian Boyle react to Filip Chytil’s injury after colliding with K’Andre Miller during the Rangers’ win over the Sharks and the Blueshirts’ continued inconsistency in the early part of the season coming off a Presidents’ Trophy-winning campaign.

  1. Let’s all stop kidding ourselves and acting like the rangers will ever win a cup cuz that ain’t happening even if they were playing amazing team is just soft to the bone and the leadership group is an absolute joke no accountability terrible and lazy habits and “positivity” and the stars not wanting to be uncomfortable or to have uncomfortable conversations and laviolette is catering to the vets which is the teams biggest problem the fact they give some of these vets such huge roles and aren’t giving the younger guys the reigns is why the team will never win they stink this core has been trying to learn how to play at least average competent defense for 5 years

  2. Larry what are you talking about chytil being their best player he’s been good but like you just sound foolish

  3. Love this show and the conversation. Mollie if i can suggest the kickoff needs a little more energy. My 2 cents

  4. I hope he's not vital to the Rangers success cuz the fucking guy is made of glass. I'm sick of seeing him bump into people and be out for games or a season. He's got a lot of skill but unless he can learn to get bumped without needing a few weeks off he's worthless to this team.

  5. The mystery is, why did Drury count on Chytil? Their roster deficiencies were exposed last season, yet nothing done to correct them. I get it, who was available and at what cost? So don't blow the bank on another goalie without filling gaping holes in front of him.

  6. Chytil is done. Remember is collapsed on the ice at practice just 9 months ago. The replay clearly showed how hard the impact was to his jaw. So soon after the last set back this may be the coup de grace. This is the last thing we needed. Miller will never leave the shit list for me no matter what he does.

  7. The Four game road trip is going to be an interesting litmus test for the 2024-2025 New York Rangers. I don’t envy Chris Drury because this roster has very little flexibility and a lot of question marks. 🤞

  8. Chytil has been made of glass ever since he got called up. Whoever banked on him to be healthy this year is out of their mind. The best ability is any sport is availability. Stop trying to count on this guy, the dream is OVER.

  9. I think the rangers are not aggressive enough, especially defensively. They don't step up in the neutral zone, they give other teams space right into their zone. This also explains why their offense almost always starts in their own end: the place where they regain possession. Their breakouts come from the other teams missed shot or opportunity instead of from a take-away or an aggressive play at their own blueline or neutral zone. This reactive style of hockey will breakdown "structure" really fast. Look at Florida and Washington, they do the opposite, they are aggressive defensively, allowing them to dictate the pace of play, even if they make a mistake. Hockey is an aggressive game not just because it's important to be tough, but because aggression = High IQ in winning hockey games. Stay in front of other teams.

  10. Sometimes i feel as though Filip Chytil gets frustrated when the team or his line forgets what their team is suppose to do I also get frustrated at their circus style passing that just does not work so what we see a repeat of the team letting the goaltender carry them.

  11. The Rangers are not winning a cup this year either. If Drury does not make major roster changes he should be fired this Summer. Igor will only have a certain amount of years left at his best. They are not winniing with this group. Drury made no changes because the Rangers won the President's trophy, but they still had nothing in the Playoffs and just rely on Igor.

  12. Until they fix backend…team is going nowhere…started season with a china doll as a top 6 forward…team is beyond fragile…

  13. Rangers going nowhere if they think Mika is still a number one center and Chytil will ever stay healthy.

  14. Truth tellers all. "They look stale, they like to think they're fast, they're not." What happened to the "structure?" "Breakouts are killing them, nothing is clean." Go NYR.

  15. Jones, Lindgren, and Ruhwedel are 6ft and under, plus Miller rarley uses his body and is always leaving his feet. Time to get bigger younger stay at home defensemen who are physical

  16. The usual Under The Blue Seats – Love hearing Brian Boyle's takes. The other two doofuses….. a few doozies…..

    1) Larry Brooks stating that Chytil has been the Rangers best player. This on a team that has Artemi Panarin (I won't included Shesterkin given he's a goalie). I love Chytil, and he's no doubt been one of their most impactful and best players so far. But best player on the team? Okay Larry, whatever you say.

    2) Does Molly Walker think that, because a team dominates another in a couple games, that's a guarantee that they will similarly dominate in every game they play against them in the future (and despite a lack of domination, they still won 4-0 against Detroit)? How long has she actually been watching the hockey she reports on? That is like an elementary schoolers take.

    3) Larry Brooks – "There has been so much talk around Shesterkin's contract". Yes, Larry, because guys like you and Molly are constantly harping about it. Just like you previously spread rumors about Trouba being traded.

Why no mention about considering a bigger role for Edstrom, who has played center in the past? Lots of other guys discussed. Why not try him?

  17. Questions about fragile emotions of hockey players? Is this the view? And Larry is becoming NYR press version of Joe B. Chytil best player? Please. Very good. Very high energy. All good attributes. But he is made of china, sadly. I wish Boyle, who I love in this job, would say it out loud. Go back to the proven line combos Lav, and MAKE this team play team D, because they don’t way more often than they do. That, and IMO that, is their key issue. LGR. Skills galore, heart and toughness, lacking.

  18. Ryan Callahan was honest on ESPN when he said the Rangers had a lack of energy, effort, emotion vs the Devils. That was a chance for the rotten core to show up, but they still didn't. Change is the only thing that can happen now. This core is not going to win a cup in NY.
