Defensive lapses and special teams cost Detroit win streak | Tarasenko scores two

It felt like a trap game. It was a trap game. Detroit plays a sloppy defensive game and gets burned multiple times, losing 6-3 to the San Jose Sharks. Justin Holl played so poorly he got benched. Ville Husso was not great in net. Special teams was a diaster. But hey, at least Vladimir Tarasenko scored twice. Now…How will they respond to adversity? #LGRW

  1. Rough game from the start. Defensive lapses, turnovers in our own zone, missing the net on prime chances over and over. Credit to the sharks who capitalized on the wings’ mistakes and responded quickly, but this game was ugly from the wings. Some positives to take away… more shots, far more attempts, more chances, more face offs, far more o-zone time. Gus still looked good this game and made a very slick pass off the back wall. Senko scored 2. The response against Florida is going to be very telling of who this team really is and where they’re going. Don’t need to win it, but have to show that we can play with the best teams in the league. LGRW.

  2. Anyone know whether or not the pro scouts have been replaced. If someone recommended to Yzerman to sign Holl and Copp should not be working in pro scouting.

  3. Really glad you mentioned Kasper giving up on that Sturm goal. That moment stood out to me too. I was very disappointed to see that. Hopefully that doesn't become a regular occurrence.

  4. Husso stinks, not crazy about Talbot either. Lyon's the best they have, if doesn't play most of the games they're not making the playoffs. How many years in the minors does ASP have to play before Yzerman figures out he can play at the NHL level? Answer at least 5.Just like Cossa & Augustine. As soon as I saw Husso was in goal I knew they were not winning. Hope that's not the 2 pts that costs a playoff spot🤷🏻‍♂

  5. I'm so glad we don't have to sit through any more of Lalonde's post-game pressers where he's talking about all the things the team did right after a bad loss.

  6. Those of you blaming Husso, yes he needs to be better than that but the team is BRUTAL in front of him defensively. Holl turnovers were BRUTAL, shorthanded breakaway was BRUTAL, wide open backdoor pass was BRUTAL. Husso needed to get his confidence and be eased back into the NHL, Holl hangs him out to dry a minute into the game. Yes it seems like he is cursed at this point and probably needs a change of scenery, but putting it all on him is just stupid. People always say he lets in softies but I didn't see any softies, obviously you hope he saves one or two of those but the team hung him out to dry on every goal.

  7. Husso is done, too many soft goals on each occasion on the ice. I know they felt this game was to be a confidence builder, but he started off like a clown four shots two goals. It never got better. Yikes!!

  8. Goaltending was why they lost. Period. They did not give up the amount of quality chances that would cause a goalie to give up 5 goals. A competent goalie gives up 2 or 3 goals in this game. The first 2 goals allowed were stoppable and Husso didn’t stop either.

  9. Guys don’t play at their best when they can’t trust their goalie to make saves. Husso needs to go, I’d rather see Campbell or Cossa at this point

  10. The team looked noticeably shakier in front of Husso (like always) and it’s time to stop acting like that’s a coincidence. It’s impossible to play a good game when you’re scared any shot at any speed from anywhere is gonna go in the net. Its time to move on

  11. That’s the defense that none of us has missed…. Giving up break away on the PP,turnovers 2 feet from the goalie, guys wide open in front of the net…

  12. Realty check, the defense was bad and we're back to missing the net on prime scoring opportunities. If this continues this will be a good year to trade veterans.

  13. Husso just needs to go. Letting in early (or late period) goals just demoralizes the team. If they need help until Lyon is fully healthy bring up Cossa, heck take him on the road trip, it'd be a growth/bonding experience!

  14. The longer a win streak goes on, the worse it feels when it's snapped. Let's see how McLellan and the team handle this.

  15. Last year the Sharks started the Wings long losing streak when they scored 6-7 goals. I have a bad feeling this will happen again considering who they will be playing.

  16. Really hope we don’t end up looking back on these games like we did last year against Arizona

  17. ALL THE HUSSO HATE IS LAZY!!! Its easy to always blame the goalie. You cannot blame the coach or the goalie for everything. Players are accountable here. The defense is not that good besides Seider and Edvinsson. And they are still young and learning. The big off season move to get a top defensemen fell thru so we have to be patient. People just want a quick fix to something that will take time whether they like it or not. Whether we make the playoffs or not does not change the fact we need better players on defense.
