The San Diego Gulls secured a commanding 5-1 victory over the Iowa Wild on Wednesday night at Pechanga Arena. Carson Meyer set the tone just 17 seconds into the game, scoring his fourth goal of the season in his first game back from injury. The Gulls extended their lead in the second period with a power-play goal by Yegor Sidorov, followed by Meyer’s second goal of the night, also on the power play. Iowa’s Travis Boyd broke through early in the third period with a power-play goal, but San Diego responded swiftly with goals from Rodwin Dionicio and Jan Myšák to seal the win. Sasha Pastujov had a stellar four-assist performance, while goaltender Calle Clang stood tall in net, stopping 38 of 39 shots to earn the third star of the game. Despite being outshot 39-19, the Gulls capitalized on special teams, going 2-for-3 on the power play and effectively shutting down Iowa’s opportunities.
