  1. Posting a comment so somebody with hockey knowledge can school me as to why this win streak is what it is. I am clueless on hockey as it wasn’t the sport I played, so I’m curious as to what lalonde’s scheme did to knee cap our offense.

  2. Everyone wanted to throw Yzerman under the bus, but I had been saying forever and Lalonde was the issue. Yzerman has slowly put together a better roster, and it is definitely better than last year, so to regress as badly as they did is all on coaching, and this is proof. The players doing well after a "Just play hockey, you've done it your whole lives" tells me Lalonde was in over his head.

  3. Lalonde should have been gone earlier, but not in the offseason. They were trending up, and to say they should have done it then is revisionist nonsense. That said, I’ve been saying the same thing about the players for a while now, and Kane was a perfect example. Be a leader and play all the time, not only when you’ve got you guy

  4. For awhile I thought Yzerman was the reason why this rebuild is overdue but now I see it we have been slowly improving every year since that historically bad season but we have been slowly improving every cooking unlike the lions who rebuilt at light speed.

We went from a historically awful team that can’t even handle the NHL to a bad team in the 2021 Covid season

We went from a bad team to a mediocre team in the 2022-2023 season

And then from mediocre to average last year

And this year or next we can take another step with the talent we have and prime Moritz Seider as well as the sights of ASP and Brandsegg-Ny

  5. It was 100% on the Lalonde. It’s pretty self evident.
His system offensively stifled the skil players on the team.

  6. Confidence is a huge part of hockey. New coach renewed their confidence, rewarded players who were playing well, and we are seeing a rejuvenated group.

  7. I read the hold-up on it was actually Chris illitch not wanting to pay out an extra contract. Who knows how much bs it is or isn't

  8. You guys really don't understand hockey. The blame falls mostly on the coach, then GM, and lastly on the players.

The players have to implement the system the coach is pushing. If the coach calls for a line change every time you get the puck near the offensive line, that ain't on the players. Hockey players are very good at following systems, because if they don't follow the system they usually get sat or end up ruining the locker room/team composition.

You don't see this effect as much in basketball baseball and football because third sports rely more heavily on their superstars. The NHL has superstars, but they don't have as much power to completely take over a game and just force a win. Hockey is more of a team sport in that sense.

  9. For a guy who accepted how the players quit on Matt Patricia as a natural reaction, and embraced Dan Campbell, MIKe is strangely baffled where it comes to the same turnaround happening with a hockey team.

  10. You want a detailed answer, here it is: lalonde wanted to focus so much on defense and not getting caught in bad line changes that the players were playing like automatrons, their puck movement was stagnant, their defenseman were stationary, they didnt cut off passing lanes because they were too focused on positioning and not responding, and the forwards spent too much time collapsing in the d zone to take away the midde that they couldnt break the puck out of their zone. This led to them playing on their heels and not being able to play aggressive which is a losing formula in all sports but particularly hockey, so yes its all on lalonde, he is not head coach material at this point though to his credit he did help raymond become a better 2 way forward and debrincats defense vastly improved but it was at great cost to the teams success. Hes just one of those guys who may never be a successful head coach but he can be a decent assistant.

  11. Lalonde's systems were Terrible. As soon as McClellan came in and changed the systems, everything got better. The players looked like crap, because of how Lalonde wanted them to play.

  12. The NHL holds onto coaches too long? The NHL is notorious for the exact opposite. Come on, guys. You gotta do better if you're going to talk hockey in Detroit.
