Since the start of January the New York Rangers have started to play better and are putting some wins together being 4-1-1 in their last 6 games played. They are still a few points back but are starting to look like a potential playoff team if they can keep up the wins.

I still do think the Rangers will take one of those wildcard spots. I had the Rangers as a wildcard team to start this season. While there performance tanking so badly wasn't what I expect, I still believe they'll get one of these wildcard spots. Cans, Devils and Caps I had finishing ahead of the Rangers due to there offseason moves/signings so that part, did not surprise me. I just hope the Rangers can have a big second half of the season. At this point, I'll wait about two to three weeks too see how I feel about this Rangers team. I'm also waiting for what team Zac Jones ends up on and what type of return the Rangers get back for him.

This is about 85 years of embarrassment and futility, save for 1994. How does an "Original Six" team fall so far from Grace ? Perhaps it started when Dale Rolfe took a beating from Dave Schultz. Not ONE Ranger stepped in to help Rolfe. After that, it was years of getting beat up. When we DID have a physical presence, it didn't last due to injury or suspension e.g., Barry Beck, George McPhee, Nick Fotiu, Joey Kocur, etc. There is a problem with the Ranger ethos and standards. Messier has spoken to this. This "Franchise" should be tough, talented, and a contender every year. You don't need to win the cup every year, but once a decade is not farfetched. Ranger fans should be insulted and apoplectic. I had season tickets for 31 years, and it was not inexpensive. Clearly, I was the sucker.
The issue to me is even ultimate best case scenario our "back" is regular season randy and we will be a quick out in the playoffs this team is not built for spring time hockey period .
Get rid of Reilly Smith first! He only seems to fit on western teams. We had a mess with his brother, why go there twice. He's not physical enough, but Brennan Othmann is!
If Rangers are battling for a wild card spot, they might not engage in a fire sale. Lindgren I can see going, but the Rangers should re-sign Borgen to a 2 year contract. If they are not going to contend for a playoff spot, then they may trade a few players. They probably are not going to move 3 D at the deadline.

They have to trade Miller he's turned into a turnover machine, he plays soft and does to much puck watching.
The good news:
The Rangers are playing better – actual effort seen in each game.
The teams ahead all have their ownserious issues – several losing streaks…some also badly underperforming this year. Who takes this year's Penguins or Ottawa as contenders?

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t the oilers have one of the worst starts of all time last year and found a way to turn it around and make it to the cup? This has been a terrible slump for us but we all know how good our team can be. We have the same chances as last year at winning and even better if we make some trades
