Michael Bunting’s Hat-Trick Holds Up After Offside Video Review



Arizona Coyotes forward Michael Bunting’s hat-trick goal was upheld after a lengthy offside review was made.

  1. The explanation from the league is that Garland got back to touch up after the puck had entered but before the coyotes had it on their stick in the zone. If you look closely you can see a gap between the puck and the stick until it's 2-3 ft into the zone (between the blue line and the golden arches of the mcdonalds logo on the boards the puck isn't touched). An interesting call but I think they got it right.

  2. So it was deemed that he didn't have possession therefore garland tagged up and then it was onside. That's a fine line to walk and I would like to see this goal be disallowed we don't want opinion based calls we already have it bad enough with goalie interference!

  3. That is clearly onside, as you can have possession of the puck without actively playing it, but you have to actively play the puck on a delayed offside for the play to be blown dead. As long as no Coyote touched it inside the zone until everybody tagged up, it’s onside.
