He didn’t even look like he was trying
McDavid wasn't going even close to full speed. He started out just taking it easy and then wound it up a little bit but it was clear that he can go way faster than this. He just knew that the other times weren't that fast by his standards so he could win without a maximum effort. You can injure yourself sustaining a top speed for that long so he made no effort to go faster than his 13.0 from two years ago. You can tell that he can go about 12.7 or 12.8 with a full effort. Larkin has gone 12.8 so you know he's fast. Where is HE this year? He is McDavid's only challenger for fastest skater.

Unfortunately for McDavid they don’t let you skate with the puck in this contest, he’s the only player in the world that skates faster WITH the puck.
Its funny how larkins record gets put in there, even though he started from the blueline and had a 12.8 while conor’s record is from the centre line at 13.0 give conor a blueline start he gets 12.5 if not faster. He basically has the same time as larkin even though larkin gets a 20 foot head start lol

Interesting to see that this is still amateur speed in actual speedskating. I guess a longer track and a different kind of skates do help a lot!
