Should surging Habs shift trade deadline focus?

The Canadiens were dead last in the Eastern Conference on December 1st but the Habs have turned things around dramatically and have put themselves in a position to fight for a playoff spot. Does their recent surge of success change the way they approach the trade deadline? TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button discusses.

  1. Resign Evans 4yrs x 3.2M Armia 3 yrs x 2.6M Either can be traded when Beck/Roy/Tuch are ready
Demidov to 2nd line, Newhook to 3rd. Trade Savard for 2nd pick in 26, Dev not returning. Mailluex to right D.

  2. Thank God he didn't talk about the Jerome Iginla trade for Joe
    Nieuwendyk trade again

  3. I think we should trade Savard and Dvorak regardless. They aren’t really helping the team in any way. Struble is doing great for Savard and now is the only time we would be able to trade him, otherwise it’s a waste when we don’t resign him. Maybe even a 3 team trade to pick up a young year old center to replace dvorak.

  4. Please, Montreal and Toronto in round 1. It would be an honor to win a game 7 in their building. 😂😂😂

  5. Gourde to replace Dvorak could make alot of sense , but only id the habs can make the numbers work

  6. Management has gotta be encouraged by the Carrier trade that the defense crystalized around.

On offense we have good chemistry with Nick and Cole, Dach and Laine (IMO), Evans, Heineman, but huge opportunity to add and move puzzle pieces around to get all lines going.

  7. No, the last thing the habs should do right now is add players. The Rangers started a rebuild and then almost immediately added high priced high talented free agents. They got good, but short circuited their rebuild and are now a disaster. Detroit was on a long rebuild but still tried to add veterans before they had acquired a deep enough roster of young talent. It feels like they may have torpedoed themselves. Ottawa added giroux and debrincat and tarasenko at a time when they needed goaltending and defense and just might have been able to reright their ship this year. Maybe not. Montreal despite being in early rebuild still only has cap space because carey price is in ltir. They are ready to lose 8 million off their cap as they finally lose armia and dvorak and still only have cap space next year because they have carey price on ltir..They can't finally get rid of price and have added another 10 million of useless veterans.
Montreal still has to get rid of all their overpriced veteran talent. They have to trade what they can of them ( David Savard) to insure that they lay in enough depth of good young, cheap talent that when the time finally comes to add an expensive veteran they are not screwed if he turns out too be Loui Ericksson or Ben Chiarot or Erik Karlsson or Josh Anderson. Not time yet to start adding expensive veterans. That's the last move you make in the rebuild after the first three quarters of it has gone well.
They need the cap flexibility to be able to ride out a bad free agent signing or trade for a veteran.
Do not be a buyer of expensive veterans. If this group makes the playoffs more power to them.
    Yanni Gourde? No.

  8. Wait for a mini slump by Evans before negotiations , right now too expensive most likely.

  9. FFS! Will yoiu guys please inform yourselves before you go on the air and say such stupid things. TSN is supposed to be the national sports network, is it to much to ask that you know what you're talking about.

  10. Brain dead panel of analysts. How could you say something like this after seeing the conference held by Kent Hughes 🤣
