He’s only criticized for his contract negotiations and his playoff performance. If we mixed in a couple of ECF appearances the scrutiny for the team as a whole would be way lower and the positivity crowd would have more of a leg to stand on.
People who say how many points he has in the playoffs I have to assume just don’t watch the games.
No, he single handed eliminates the leafs playing cowerd hockey in playoffs. I dont care he is doing good in season.
Him crying in the playoffs certainly didn't help his reputation.
Criticism is fair I think. Considering the money he makes but even more importantly he takes up a lot of ice time. During his time on the ice his side of the boards are too easy for the opposition and he also makes too many high risk plays like behind the back passes in his own zone. In overtime in the playoffs I don’t trust him to go the extra distance to help his team win. Game seven OT last year he played with all the intensity you might expect from an exhibition game. He is a great player to be sure. Just not nearly as great as he thinks

I think Marner’s reputation truly turned after that delay of game penalty against Montreal. Maybe I’m a biased habs fan but I think that’s truly when he went from “top 5 wingers in hockey a hall of fame distributor” to “overpaid bum show up in the clutch” in the eyes of leafs fans
Marner is incredibly likable in his play, his chemistry and his off ice reputation.
He should've been out of the team in the summer. He's being paid way too much to practice figure skating in the regular season and don't show up in the playoffs.

He’s finally playing at a 7 million dollar level.
Marner gets paid for his regular season performance. His contract reflects his regular season play. He is one of the best wingers in the NHL during the 82 game season.
If the Leafs were paid for playoff performance, Tavares would be the highest paid player and Matthews, Marner and Nylander would be paid many millions less.
Marner will be paid over 13 million by some team next year. Leafs fans you better hope he doesn't demand more from the Leafs than other teams because of all the grief he gets in Toronto.
There isn’t a dman currently in the league that controls play at both ends the way Pronger did. Prime Keith, Doughty, Hedman were close. Q Hughes and Makar aren’t physically or defensively in the same league as 99-2000 pronger, hence no hart consideration
Marner falls off the most when the physicality goes up
He is scrutinized because he is overpaid by a million per year over Rantanen and he disappears in the playoffs every year. If he signs for 12 X 8 then I wouldn’t have anything to criticize. If he wants more sign Rantanen if he is available.

Tavares has been a good leader just isn't worth the 11m.

Matthew's usually a top 3 goal scorerer every year.
Because hes a greedy balerina on the ice who fleeced his team for his first contract before proving anything about winning including never having 100 points in a single season, he loves to score in games 1-3 in the playoffs and then dissapears in games 4 – 7 and expects the world because he does some fancy spin moves in 25 games out of 82. Not to mention he acts and looks like hes to rich and to good to play hockey as well as he does every night in every interview. And he will likely fleece this team again this season even though they still havent proved anything.
It's not like it's unearned. Guys like Rantanen, Kucherov, Barkov, etc have all taken less and performed in the playoffs, and now no one says anything about them.

Willy messes anything up he's roasted. Same with Tavares. Mitchy? "……but he's just a local kid. He's doing his best." He's genuinely of Matthews, Marner, Willy, the least effective player in the playoffs. Every. Single. TIME! when you get to games 5, 6, and 7 he is nonexistent!
Marner is by far the best player on this team, on pace for 100 points . He's better off leaving Toronto, they have the worst fanbase in the NHL. Period
